    .

A stylish hotel with outstanding service and delicious food.

It is in the middle of nowhere, and there is nothing much to do on foot in the surrounding area if you are there for an evening and night, tired after a long journey and unwilling to get into the car again. You can walk around the gardens, but not really go for a stroll outside.

However, the hotel itself is very good indeed.

An old convent, it has been modernised whilst retaining many original features - the old bread oven for example and the stone walls - to make overall a very stylish place to be.

The bedrooms are large and well equipped, although personally I do not go for the modern "deconstructed" bathrooms where the washbasin and shower are basically in the bedroom itself. However, the beds are large and comfortable and there is a sofa area by the television, a good reading desk, and overall a pleasant feel.

The public areas are quite magnificent, the library in particular is worth a special mention. The gardens are very pleasant, sort of English-Country-House style with lawns and rose bushes, with a children's play area hidden in one corner - you'll have to go right across the lawns and hunt around to find it.

The food was excellent. Good French hotel standard, basically. Well chosen items, well cooked and served, and overall quite delicious. Worth going there just for the food.

One thing I didn't much care for - and it is a matter of personal taste - was the recurring design feature of deliberately-rusted metal. Outside, inside, in the public areas, in the bedrooms. But that's just me!

Overall a very good hotel - we have been there a couple of times now, and it's a pleasure to drive up and be welcomed by the very pleasant staff.

They close for 3 or 4 months out of season, so do check before planning to stay there.

P.S. they give you a box of shortbread biscuits when you leave - home made. A final delicious touch!

Absolutamente recomendable.

Amazing, sympathetic conversion of a 12C convent. Very modern inside and the bedroom was so cleverly done. Food in restaurant delicious. All in all a real find
