No word can describe this mosque. It should not be considered as a house of prayer, it's a sign of power and ability.
The hight and the width are exaggerated in a manner of missals show.
Mohamed Ali did not need a prayer house, he rather built a great edifice of religion to force the public feeling of respect and obedience.

The mosque looks majestic and very impressive from a distance, but a closer look will reveal that it requires urgent maintenence, I hope the concerned authorities will do something about it

Great mosque that is featured on the 20 pound bill (see attached photo). It is a testament to the greatness of Muhammad Ali Pasha who modernised Egypt and gave it its last line of kings. Muhammad Ali Pasha is also buried inside the mosque.

Arrive well before closing time, since many parts are closed prior. The mosque is very impressive, and we were lucky to have a clear enough view that reveals the pyramids in the far back.

An amazing piece of architecture. We arrived on a beautiful Friday morning to the laughter and delight on school children visiting mosque.

Worth the taxi ride and the trek up. If you're used to our boring churches, this will simply blow you away. You have, as you'd expect, remove your shoes before entering, but as soon as you step inside the interior is absolutely stunning, with hundreds of lights hanging just above your head. If that wasn't enough, the views from up here, over the main city are breathtaking. Couldn't help smiling, as the main sound is car horns drifting up :-)

A must see. If in Cairo you must visit this site. Truly breathtaking, amazing workmanship and a photographer's dream. Can be seen from a few miles away. The chandeliers are beautiful. Remember it's a place of worship (NO shoes).
