It's the historical place. The first Egyptian pyramid to be built was the Step Pyramid at Sakkara (Saqqara).

It was built by Imhotep for the king Djoser.

The step pyramid was originally intended to be a large square mustaba (tomb) built over an underground burial chamber but further extensions were added making a six-layered step pyramid 62 metres in height.

Pharaoh’s continued to be buried in Egyptian pyramids until the end of the Middle Kingdom 1650BC when they began to be buried in tombs in the Valley of the Kings.

    Must visit the place.

The Egyptian pyramids are ancient pyramid-shaped masonry structures located in Egypt. As of November 2008, sources cite either 118 or 138 as the number of identified Egyptian pyramids, Most were built as tombs for the country's pharaohs and their consorts during the Old and Middle Kingdomperiods.

The earliest known Egyptian pyramids are found at Saqqara, northwest of Memphis. The earliest among these is the Pyramid of Djoser, which was built c. 2630–2610 BC during the Third Dynasty. This pyramid and its surrounding complex were designed by the architect Imhotep, and are generally considered to be the world's oldest monumental structures constructed of dressed masonry.

The most famous Egyptian pyramids are those found at Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo. Several of the Giza pyramids are counted among the largest structures ever built. The Pyramid of Khufu at Giza is the largest Egyptian pyramid. It is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still in existence.

We just came back from Cairo, Egypt with full satisfaction. My husband and I had the day tour booked. Our local tour guide Ahmed Mohsen picked us up from the hotel in a private car. It was a wonderful experience with him as he was experienced, knowledgeable about Egyptian history culture and heritage, humorous English speaking guide. Never felt bored with him. Our driver was also English speaking polite guy and both of them made our trip very pleasant. There are so much to see, 12 days wasn’t enough and we would love to go back again.
