    Run away! No matter what you booked the price will not be honored. You will not get the car without paying more than double for extra insurances. The stuff you are reading is true. Don’t think it will work out for you!

    Terrible experience. I reserved a car online and it said it would fit 5 with bags. The car was too small and I had to upgrade to a larger car. When I made the change the agent supposedly worked with me to give me the correct miles. When I returned the car I was over mileage and owed more money. When I checked the car out I was not told how much gas to have in the car and again when I returned it didn't have enough so I owed more money. I also had the agent irritated with me because they tried to put a hold for the insurance deductible on my credit card (which they failed to mention at checkout) and my credit card declined to let them put the $1500 hold. The agent was *shocked* the other agent had not passed that information on to me. I felt nickeled and dimed by the experience as well as irritated that I was scolded for my credit card declining their hold when they failed to mention they were going to do this. I would not rent from Thrifty in Ecuador again.

    Take pictures of the cars you rent from every angle. Cannot be trusted.

    Same story as the rest. Went through Travelocity and they did not honor the deal. They double charged us for insurance and rental, traded our shitty rental for an even shittier one and when we returned it they charged the full week despite having it 2 days. This place is all scammers.

    Operated by scammers and inept staff. Double charging for insurance, despite me already having insurance, and trying to charge me insurance for the wrong and much higher end vehicle group.

    reserved a car from Canada, went on my trip, tried to pick up car. they have no car for me. I have no hotel, no other transportation, and nowhere to go. The car I reserved was still there, but they could charge walk in renter more so they refused to honor my reservation. If I could rate them with less stars I would.

    BEWARE, scammers and completely inept/untrained staff. Rented a car in Guayquil for a week but was told we could exchange the crappy truck they rented us for a nice new subcompact in quito. BUT of course upon arriving in Quito, no such car existed. Three days later Quito office asks us to sign a new contract for supposedly no cost for a new car which seemed fine until $2000 appeared on my credit card account with zero explanation. Took me days on days to dispute the charge and only my US based bank was finally able to block the charge and re-credit me. To this day, absolutely no email or call from thrifty. THE WORST, AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. Go to Simón car rental, its a local company that my Ecuadorian friends say is legit.

    First time in Ecuador and I bring my family. At the car rental we meet Edgar and Silvia. Both seem nice and we talk about our 9 day rental. The rentals here are either unlimited miles or 100km per day. In the USA rentals are almost always unlimited miles. I hadn't seen a rental by mile for about 10 years. The difference between the unlimited or 100km then .45 per mile after was about $244. Once we tell them we are going to Ibarra and then down to ambato they say 100km is enough. So we did 100km.

    It wasn't enough and on day 5 we have 100km left and we are 100km south of Quito. We call and ask them if we can change our rental to unlimited miles for $244 now because we are going to run out of miles. Edgar says no, the contract is set and they can't change it now. I would think the company would rather up sell the client and keep them happy but, not here. I ask Edgar if he can check with a manager because we will need to return early if we are going to start paying by mile. I didn't know how many more miles we would go but didn't want to start paying per mile. He tells me to call back in 20 minutes. After 3 calls and an hour and a half still nothing is resolved. As I start to press him about the managers name and number he gives me a fake name and a number that doesn't work. He refuses to let me talk to anyone else saying he is the only one who speaks English. Then he tells me he is new at the company and has to get back to me. Now it's around 11 and I tell him I need to go enjoy my vacation with my family. I have lost all confidence in him and didn't trust what he was saying.

    We return the car 3 days early because I was concerned how this was going shake out. I would have rather paid the extra $244 for unlimited miles and seen more of the country. Once the car is returned we argue about a refund because it was returned early. After I tell them there should still be a small portion of the rental returned because they have the car they tell me there are no refunds here. I pay an extra $105 for miles driven and no refund or partial refund is given. It felt like they stole a little from me.

    All in all Silvia and Edgar were just doing their job. It was Miss Normales who is the manager that I have an issue with. She had the authority to do something and did nothing. When I met her I could see the greed dripping from her teeth and when I looked into her eyes I saw a dull soul that had lost all hope. It's hard for someone so sad to try and understand how to take care of a customer.

    I would not rent from them again.

    Anyone traveling to Ecuador rent a car BUT not from this thrifty. This is a beautiful country and easy to travel. Make sure you have a good co pilot. I couldn't have seen so much of the Andes without mine.

    What I learned from this;
    Unlimited miles
    No refunds from Thrifty Ecuador they are a little crooked and will take advantage of you.
    Silvia speaks English
    Edgar has a hard time telling the truth
    Miss Normales can't take care of her customers

    Hopefully they will all change their ways. I wasn't expecting that big of a refund because of the miles we used. They had their car back early and would be able to rent it out again.
