Great place for walks , hiking and panoramas.
It is worth going down. If you don't feel like walking back to the top (very steep, about 300m altitude difference) you can take a horse, they offered it to us for $5
Beautiful landscape, fresh weather in sunny days. Can rent kayaks and buy refreshments.
Beautiful picturesque spot.
It is nice, with a small cabin that sells hot chocolate and food (not vegan tho) you can rent a kayak and go around the lagoon for a while.
Wow No one can dispute how incredible the views are.
The only issue with this beach is the HELL you have to endure trying to get from the bottom back to the top.
It's at least an hour of slow climbing if you're unfit and maybe 30-45 minutes if you are, but regardless of that, there is no denying how beautiful Quilotoa is!
Beautiful nature and landscapes, but unfortunately had some problems with the local people, very abusive and always asking for money, even the free parking created by the government was part of local's plan to ask for 2 dollars per person, not even for vehicle. The same for the inside of the crater Be careful with the native people.
If you're planning to campo make sure to be prepared for the temperatures, 0 to 3 Celsius. Alcohol is prohibited inside the crater and don't get close to the trees, they're protected by the locals.
Beautiful lake. I did the Quilotoa loop and arrived here last which I think is the best route to take. I got a bit lost coming up so it was a struggle but worth it once I found the right path and saw the lake. It's at 3800 metres and very windy on top so make sure you are dressed appropriately.
If you have enough time I would definitely walk down to the bottom. People overrate how hard it is to get back up. It isn't too bad.
My advice if you are gonna visit this place is to take sunscreen, something to protect you from the sand, sun and the weather in general. If you gonna camp there be aware that at the night is really cold. One tip I can give you for camping is that if you wanna relax and you see too many people camping around just keep walking a little more there are some hidden places where you can be in totally relax. Take firewood with you theres no too much stuff for make fire around.
The place is very nice but people down there (kayak/mule service) are the least friendly we have seen around here
Another epic spot just a few hours outside of Quito. The drive to Quilotoa is quite scenic and pinturesque with roaming sheep, cows, pigs and alpaca! [Ask for Julio the Alpaca :-) ] Once at the park there are facilities to refresh yourself before the walk or ride down. The views are breathtaking! Once at the bottom though they offer kayaking and refreshments. If you're not used to the altitude the ascent is near to impossible so do take a horse/donkey back up. Truly an awesome day out
