Good price! Clean, fun, keep luggage safe during Quilotoa loop. Recommended.
We stayed here for two nights, one night before our Quilotoa Loop trek and one night after. The first night was dead, nobody there, but the receptionist lady was very friendly and helpful with info regarding the trek. Don't listen to her advice about how essential it is to pre book hostels on the loop, it isn't. At one place we stayed there were only two other guests and dozens of beds The second time we stayed at hostal tiana was lively, many guests discussing their trek and people playing guitar etc etc. Overall a nice cosy place with creaky wooden floorboards and a decent breakfast, if you want something more modern with a central square view stay around the corner at central hostel, it's the same price but without the quilotoa loop info benefits.
Location is really nice, the views from the rooftop terrace are amazing on clear days. Breakfast is included however pretty basic but sufficient.
We stayed in Hostal Tiana before and after hiking the Quilotoa Loop. They offer a simple breakfast and storage for the bags (1sr day free, $1 per day afterwards). It's also ideal to find co-hikers for the loop or to share the excursions prices (we managed to find 6 people for Cotopaxi). The staff was nice and helpful.
Pretty bog standard basic hostel. Breakfast was a bit disappointing before starting hiking that day. Also some confusion around pricing for storing bags while away for hike. Rooms where ok but pretty packed. Decent facilities and staff.
After a fine experience at Hostal Tiana, our check-out was so bad we definitely wouldn’t recommend this hostel. The evening before we had a 5 AM bus to catch, we checked with the reception to make sure someone would be there early in the morning, so we could pay for the room and have a taxi called. We were assured by two different employees that the reception is staffed 24/7. At 4:30 the next morning, we went downstairs to check out. All the lights were off so we had the flashlight on our phone on, and no one was to be found. We rang the bell on the counter. Out came Mr. Grinch of one of the rooms and angrily said “Turn off the light” to which I responded, “we can’t see anything without the light.” He began shaking his head and sighing under his breath. Then, I asked him if we could have a taxi to the terminal called and pay for our 2 night stay. He went off on a rant about how we needed to pay them still (weird, since we already asked if we could pay) to which I responded by asking why he was being so rude to us. He responded “no es mi culpa” (it’s not my fault) to which I responded “of course it isn’t, no one said it was.” He called us a taxi and began lecturing us about how we needed to arrive at the terminal 30 mins early (which we already were). We went to leave and he yelled over that we couldn’t leave without the key and irritatedly came to unlock it for us. All in all, we left speechless. The only reason I can think of for treating us this way is that he didn’t want to be up yet and get his fair amount of beauty sleep. Hostal Tiana, perhaps you should find a different employee to staff your reception in the morning, as Mr. Grinch clearly doesn’t want to be working and has no idea what basic kindness means, let alone customer service. Avoid a stay at Hostal Tiana, and especially an early morning departure because Mr. Grinch stole our early morning.
Latacunga is a busy city and usually the first or last stop for travelers on the Quilotoa Loop. I would almost recommend skipping this city altogether because travelers stick out. My friend and booked a room here but after seeing the traffic in and out and the lack of security on the rooms, we decided to cut our losses and keep moving to Sigchos.
The room did have a bathroom, shower, and WiFi.
Good location, nice day trips, clean and comfi beds. The wifi isn't that good :/
Clean, friendly, and very helpful. Very good and hot showers! Pretty common areas with a large open kitchen.
The double room with private bath was clean, but directly in the hallway where the breakfast was served, the only door and window would face that same hallway. You could hear every single time someone would pass by or ring the door or whatever. On top of that there is a fitness center next door that plays loud zumba music until late and starts again at 7h.
The staff was a mixed bag, sometimes they where friendly and sometimes not helpful and even a little rude, on the other hand they speak english well, what made the communication easy.
For one night this place was OK, but I would not want to stay longer.
Fairly clean, decent, simple breakfast (two bread rolls, a banana, coffee or tea, butter and jam, eggs are extra). WiFi is good but gets bogged down when the place fills up at night. Tons of backpack travelers hitting the nearby Quilotoa Loop and / or Cotopaxi. Good warm showers.
It's a bit of a box standard Hostel.
Pros: There are a lot of facilities here which is good (such as computer room, baggage room)
The private room was actually pretty nice
Showers were hot
Cons: there is one lady that is particularly rude and unhelpful (as addressed by a few different people) we were given incredibly basic (and wrong) directions to the bus terminal after asking 3 times. She also charged us for an extra nights luggage storage when it should have been free.
The maps they gave us for the Quilotoa loop we're wrong (one instruction said DO NOT TAKE THE LEFT TURN) which other people's maps said you should (we took the left and it led to the correct path).
Overall, the nights stay was adequate for the price of the Hostel, but when we needed the hostel's help for the trek, they failed pretty miserably.
Horrible! An absolute no-go Hostal. Yes, the building itself is pretty, but that's it. They messed up my booking and I had to convince them for about 30 minutes otherwise they would have charged me double the price. Apart from that, the single room was located just at the hallway. It was very loud, I could hear every step and even people from the neighbors room moving in the bed. There were no windows in the room and no proper door. Only some kind of window to close with a padlock and shutters, but it was never possible to entirely close it. Water in the showers took 3 minutes to get warm and then was constantly switching from very got to ice cold.
Staff was unfriendly and arrogant. The included breakfast consisted of white bread and a banana. The coffee was terrible.
Next to my room there was a fitness studio which had very loud Zumba or dance classes until 11pm and from 7am. It was impossible to sleep without earplugs.
The WORST thing: I guess I had fleas in my bed!!!! At the first night I woke up with my feet and legs itching like hell and in the morning I had several big bites, always 2 or 3 next to each other. Definitely flea bites. More than one week after my stay there they are still itching, are inflamed and will leave bad scars. HORRIBLE experience. Tiana, never ever again.
Clean room, hot water in the shower, free WiFi, helpful staff, can book tours and treks with them, will give free information about any attraction in the area. Breakfast is quite small but free, good location, not too far from the bus terminal and just by the center.
Communal area. Drinking on the roof. Cheap. Has quilotoa loop directions. Access to a kitchen. Bam. Liked it.
Private bedroom spacious and clean. Bathrooms clean and showers had hot water but often it was scalding or cold - hard to set the right temperature. Receptionist friendly and helpful. The Mexican restaurant they recommend to eat it is very very bland. Wifi was strong. Breakfast was juice with two bread rolls, jam, butter and a banana. Stayed during low season. Beware of old woman on reception, she's not friendly and tried to rip us off for storing our bags there when we came back from the loop. She said it was per day not per night. We went for some food and to get change to pay later and when we came back it was a different staff member. He didn't say we needed to pay more so the woman had been trying to rip us off.
Great hostel for the start of the Quilotoa loop. You can leave your bags there too which is great. Slightly cramped rooms though..
