I could walk from where I was staying, in the Bella Vista neighborhood, up a hill, of course, it's Quito! I had never heard of this artist and was really surprised. So intense and dramatic portrayal of human suffering. Really fabulous museum and a best part was free tour in English with admission. Senior half price $4. Just get there about 10am ish.

An amazing house of an odious hypocrite. Guayasamin is all about peace and suffering yet associated with genocidal dictators like mao.

Interesting tour about Oswaldo Guayasamin and him work. Good selection of historical art he collected as well as some of his own. His studio was neat to see with his tools and portraits he painted.

While neither my wife nor I am particular fans of much of Guayasamin's art, a visit to his house was well worth the time. The house and setting itself is fascinating architecturally and it is exquisitely furnished. In addition, Guayasamin collected art from many of his contemporaries so the experience is very rewarding. From downtown Quito you will be quoted several rates by the taxis. On the meter, our fare was about $4.50. We were offered fares as high as $8.00 and settled on $5.00. Returning we grabbed a cab in front of the residence and paid the standard meter price.

Simply put: One of my favorite places in Quito. Much more than an art museum--on some level a true "temple of man" with all the requisite religious overtones and meditations on suffering. It took me a while, during my 6 mo stay in Ecuador, to come to appreciate Guayasamín's work, but now I really, truly due. His capturing of the suffering of the people of Latin America is unmatched and some of his works seem seared on my soul. Truly, deeply incredible.

Depressing and powerful art displayed in a great setting
The foundation is split into two halves, which one entrance fee covers ($8 foreigners). The main attraction is the work of Oswaldo Guayasamín, which shows the pain that many people have endured. His house is also in the property and displays his extensive life long collection of pre colonial and colonial art.
The staff is fairly friendly. It's worth a visit if in Quito, especially if you're interested in the arts.response / report this review -

Very interesting to see how the 20th century artist lived and decorated his home- lots of ideas for my future house. His art collection is very eclectic and fills his abode to the brim. The tour will also take you through his workshop and shows a video of him painting one of his portrait. Make sure you take the tour because I do not think you would get as much out of it if you just did your own walk-through (I don't even know if that is allowed) It was $8 for the ticket which gives you access to the casa-museo (his house) and the adjacent Capilla del Hombre which I also really enjoyed.

Pleasant cultural experience. Well manicured grounds and interesting architecture. Lots of contemporary art. Close to Parque Municipalidad West entrance which is relatively unknown.
