Very nice hotel, calm and friendly. The price is also very low for the standing you get if you compare it to the other hotels in the area. It's located 500 meters away from the beach so be prepared to walk a bit. But it is nice in the end when you know that the bars near the ocean are blasting raggaeton music all day and all night long!

An affordable beach paradise in Ecuador. Shangri La is an oasis of palm trees and flowers. The gardens are full of birds and are also home to seven tortoises and two of the coolest dogs that I have met.
It is European owned and managed, standards are exceptional.

We have a lovely time. Canoa is a delight, and Casa Shangrila is a great and friendly place to stay that is outside the noise of the beach zone

We had an amazing time at Casa Shangri La. At first we weren't sure if we could visit Canoa at all because of the earthquake in April - we were there in July. Jeroen (the owner) told us beforehand that is was safe to come and Canoa was being rebuild at the moment. The damage is cleaned up but there are a lot of buildings that are just gone. The local people were actually really happy to have us there, because that way they can start building on the future again and move ahead.

The owners are really friendly and will give you all the information you ask for or just have a nice chat. We stayed in two different rooms, first in a double room and later in a family (dorm) room. The rooms (especially the dorm room) were spacious, bright and clean! It is also very cheap, ten dollars a night. You can rent surfboards, just grab a board and write your name down on a paper. There is also a really relaxing swimming pool. This was the best hostel we stayed in during a month long travel through Ecuador and I would highly recommend it!

I was in Canoa to see friends for new year they arrived a week earlier and they were four.
When I arrived I asked if they could call my friends and also I asked if I could camp on the property
I am travelling with a very small budget (non stop since march) so I could not afford the price of a room or even a dorm
When I was talking to the manager My friend arrived and I began talking to my friend that I had not seen in 2 months The manager told me I was rude to interrupt the discussion with him even though I had received all the information (I could not camp and he would not do any effort to make a discount for a dorm bed).
After travelling quite a lot in America Latina, I noticed that bargaining is often used here but he did not think so.
I said to myself : Ok nevermind I will find something else as he was kicking me out saying ..if you do not stay here you leave now
I respected that and found a good place to camp
As it was new years'eve, my friend (who has a baby so could not leave the hotel to watch her) asked if I could come to have some beers at the hotel (of course paying the beers at the hotel) but he did not accept and actually wanted to kick them out).
I've been travelling a lot and have worked 6 years in hospitality business and I've never seen that.
It is really a shame because the hotel has potential.
