Just joined a club of happy tourists got scammed by a friendly gas station attendant who I also tipped. Was charged $78 for 4-5 gallons. Its hard to realize when you first time in the country and not used to USD/DOP exchange rates, but it looks like a legit gas station next to the airport so you won't even think its possible.
On 2/28/2018, the attendant scammed me out of 5,182 DOP. I paid with my debit card to top off the tank. He said the transaction failed and needed to change handheld devices. He then asked for another card because the first was now blocked. I paid for the gas with my visa--1,982 DOP. Upon arrival at the airport, I discovered the charge on my first card. A receipt was requested and it shows some scribbling at the signature part which had to have been done by the attendant. He had to ask for another card because two back to back transactions on same card would have been a red flag. So far, all disputes have failed. Hopefully word will get out and these a@@holes will get fired. This is not good for tourism. I am trying to get the message to United Petroleum that their gas station, which I am sure is utilized by many tourists, has a criminal element.
I encourage everyone that was scammed to bombard United Petroleum with messages about these scammers. On their website, there is a link for contacts.
United Petroleum also has a facebook page.
As an update to my post---I posted info on United Petroleum's website and facebook page. I received a call from the owner of the gas station who advised she is going to investigate. I sent her photos of my documents--------- Still skeptical.
Tried to scam me for 1000 pesos (for the second time in two weeks - the first time was by simply putting an extra 1000 pesos on the Visa payment machine when he gave it to me to put in my PIN - I thought an honest mistake ). Two weeks later, I carefully watched the pump as the attendant was filling my car. It filled up and stopped at 1,605 pesos. While filling the tank, the attendant continually tried to distract me from looking at the pump. When full, he asked me to check that my car shows the fuel is full. I did. When I looked back up, the price on pump showed 2,605 pesos and two other attendants walking away from the pump. I screamed at them to change the pump back to what it was, 1,605 pesos. Luckily I had exact change, I gave them 1,600 pesos and left. There was no objections from them.
We are pursuing action against this station. This station is either staffed by people with bad intent or managed by people with bad intent. STAY AWAY!
Never ever go there!!! No se paren nunca aqui! Scammers/Estafadores!
If I can give this place a negative rating I would. While on vacation in Punta Cana my wallet was stolen and within 30mins of the wallet going missing transactions were put in for each of my four credit cards five times each. Its crazy that who ever works there would allow something like that to happen. This place should be shut down and the authorities need to step in.
Scammers. Wish I had read the reviews and be more careful. Attendant distracted us with a conversation and quickly reset the display panel on the gas dispenser. Charged us more than double. We successfully disputed the charge with our credit card company and got $50 back.
Scammers. They will do everything to charge a lot more than supposed to. Be careful and check the meter to see how much you have to pay
Scammers. Attendant got different amount in POS and overcharged us $40 for 2 gallons. Filed scam with credit card company.
Beware of this place!! Do not use your credit card there under any circumstances!! I was scammed by the attendant. He swiped my card twice, the first transaction was authorized, but the second one for 1500 pesos was not. My credit card company provided me with a transaction receipt and it showed that the jerk signed for it. It was not my signature.
I was scammed on 2/22 by the attendant there. He overcharged me by almost $200 USD for 7-8 gallons of gas!
