Only reason no 5 star is I stayed at breathless next door. Party life 24/7. If your a couple, single or group, and you want to have the time of your life! Go to breathless! If you have kids, or if you just want to relax and have a good time, onyx is for you. 4th day here and breathless is the best for me and my girl. Depends what you want

My Maui Jim sunglasses disappeared from my room. I kept them inside so I wouldn't wreck them on the beach with the sand. I'm a dummy for leaving $280 glasses in a room where the maid service is in and out three times a day and that's about their monthly wage.
Beautiful spot though. Nicely engineered grounds. Foods pretty good too.response / report this review -

Really fun and modern. I did not stay here but enjoyed a cocktail reception with a group of travel agents. Swim out rooms can only be occupied by adults. The pool scene was vibrant and looked like a lot of fun. The buffet is very cute.

Room smelled & had to ask several times to get it cleaned. Last night when they decided to show up, they stole money from our safe which they claim to be found open. We were not the only people this happened to this week. Fortunately after a 2 hr fight, they did refund our money after making us sign a waiver. Spa was great at Breatheless. Food in dining was good. Grounds were very clean & Christine, bartender in lobby was best employee.

Very nice resort, food was great, staff very helpful and friendly. Our room was in the adult section with it's own pool and cabana and it's was top notch. Would highly recommend this resort.

This was our 2nd trip back to Now Onyx. January 2017, excellent. February 2018, very good. Facility is spotless, grounds and buildings constantly maintained 7 days a week.
Our room this time was in building 5, considerably noisier than building 2 last year. Building 5 faces Breathless. The music and noise from the party atmosphere carries over to Now.
Only 2 complaints or objections. Our trip extend to the 1st week of March. Spring break for college kids, noisy and disrespectful of others privacy. We came here for family oriented relaxation and sun, not to drink shots and play loud music. Staff did nothing to quiet the kids. The only other objection was the smoking. Back in the states smoking in a public place is not allowed. Here people don't care and just light up, cigarettes, cigars, vape, no respect of others.
Other than those 2 minor complaints it was a wonderful trip with friendly people, excellent food and perfect weather.response / report this review -

Employees are friendly, resort is nice for the most part. Food is very average. The resort allows vendors onto the property who are relentless in their soliciting of guests and make the atmosphere far from relaxing. We ended up leaving 2 days early to go home. The wind blows non stop at about 25 to 35 mph making it impossible to enjoy beach time. We had a couple of incidents while there-lost power in our room and had help the employees figure out where the electrical box was to get it turned back on. Had major ants in our roomthey came in and sprayed (causing horrible odor in the room) and then just left.we had to then ask them to come back and clean up all the dead ants. Not one time during our stay did we every hear from anyone in management about anything or get an apology. Our butler was great and did his best to make our stay enjoyable. We will not go back for sure and probably will never visit another resort in the Amstar family.

Rewrite of a previous review. We had a very bad experience to start off our trip in which we had cards and accounts extremely overcharged by vendors with a frustratingly slow and inadequate response from staff and management (on my birthday) that completely ruined our first couple days and essentially stole an entire day of our vacation trying to work it out. In the end we were refunded about half or a little more than $5000 charged to us. The most frustrating part was when they told us that it happens occasionally but they still allow those vendors to come weekly, obviously taking a cut of thief profits. With that said, we were eventually moved to the neighboring resort, Breathless, which was absolutely fantastic our last two and a half days. We’d never come back to Onyx but we would certainly stay with the overall company again. Chalk it up to really bad circumstances and what’s hopefully a semi-isolated incident. I’d leave a five-star review for Breathless.

The experience was mostly great, and it was made enjoyable by the many services that were made to us on our stay. The Hotel is a 45 minute trip from the Punta Cana International Airport and is situated at a beautiful shoreline. I really enjoyed all of the services which were more or less likely executed to get rid of experiencing issues first at hand. Waiters and Staff were very friendly, as well as the entertainment team, and in the visit there were many who assisted us in our general resort and spa visit, and preferred club vacation experience. Thank you to the team.

Great hospitality with wonderful front desk, concierge service representatives Fernando and Antonio, room service and variety of entertainment for everyone. They were very attentive to the needs of the guests, making our stay a home away from home. Variety of restaurants and water activities in several pools and beach. My husband and I had a pleasurable experience in October for my birthday.

Awesome resort. Been here twice for Dominican Holidaze. Great pools, beautiful beach, awesome rooms. The only thing that could be improved on would be the food, more healthy, protein packed and vegan friendly options would be ideal. And spring water as opposed to purified water. This place is everything and more! 👍

Resort just opened a year ago and still looks like brand new. Service is very nice and friendly. Food and drinks are better than the average all inclusive resort. 4 stars because some problems with logistics (mostly since the staff is also very new) still haven't been worked out

Beach is great, hotel and pool are great, and the service is great, but the food was pretty average. It's a huge variety of between 2 and 3 star food. If food is important to you you might want to go somewhere else. Otherwise it's a great place to have a nice and relaxing vacation.

All inclusive, unless you want to have entertainment, more than mediocre food, mold free rooms and televisions that actually work. There was a work group of 16 that came together. Several of us ended up with severe intestinal issues. One was a bacterial infection due to food poisoning and had to have medical attention immediately upon returning back to Georgia. The same couple had a room full of mold and moisture to the point that they requested being relocated. They were refused.
The "buffet" is mediocre on the best day, frequently out of items. I stopped eating breakfast because of the abysmal variety. And how do you screw up bacon or pancakes? The only decent restaurant was Spice and it was good. Items normally provided at an all inclusive are extra. There is very little to do without paying extra or leaving the property. Most televisions worked only sporadically or not at all. Kind of a necessity on rainy days.
In brief, i have stayed at all inclusive, 5 star resorts. This place is not even in their league. We will not be back.
The beaches are good, pools are nice and booze is plentiful. Past that, good luck. You will need it.response / report this review -

Doreth from Toronto--As soon as I arrived at the hotel the staff greeted me with a towel and a nice glass of pineapple juice. The atmosphere is very pleasant and I like that. The Porter assisted me to my room and I was speechless! The food is excellent and they were very helpful. I would come back here over and over again. When I return to Toronto I DEFINATELY will be telling my families and friends about the Now Onyx Hotel Punta Cana.

The onyx is the less expensive version of the Breathless Resort. The facility is nice but the service and management ate the same. Slow to do anything and uncaring. If you see anyone put a name in their review it is because that person in which they are making has made a deal with them to go above and beyond for them if they put a review on Trip advisor and Google for them.
The worker gets paid virtually nothing by the resorts so if they can be requested by guests then it is better chance they will get more tips. However they won't do even half they did for the deal makers.response / report this review -

We are staying at Dreams and decided to take a walk to visit the resort. I have to admit that it looks Insanely beautiful. I regret not booking there. Spoke to some people and they said rooms are fantastic. Maybe next year we'll come see you Mr Now Onyx.
Addition. Today took another walk to show other family how beautiful the resort was. Was kicked out because we are not guests. Even though we mentioned we were just looking. I guess he did his job. Because Punta Cana is a relatively new resort, about eight months old, there are a few room accommodations and amenities missing and staff are still getting into the groove. However it is a beautiful place with a personal pool outside the downstairs rooms and a gacuzzi on the balcony of each upstairs suite if you don't feel like dipping in the Caribbean. All you can eat and drink. There is always some form of entertainment. The staff are all very friendly, but I highly recommend learning the language before coming.

It is my first time going to Punta Canta and have to say it is wonderful here! We were there for 7 days and wish I could stay longer. The hotel is very clean, has many pools, a large beach area, as well as excellent activities during the day for teenagers-adults and enjoyable late night shows! The entertainment team is very friendly and the activities are fun. The hotel staff welcomed everyone and are very helpful! I Would totally come back to Punta Cana resort in the future!

Had a wonderful time. Stayed in a swim up room which was well appointed and had great service. The Prelude Bar is a must visit. Wandy the bartender and Ivelisse the waitress were both awesome. We had a lot of fun with them and half way through our visit my husband 'adopted ' him as a son.

Amazing! When they say all inclusive they mean it! Unlike other resorts everything in the room is yours to use for no additional cost. Most excursions and activities can be done right on the beach at the resort

Breathtaking!
ROOMS
Beautiful and comfortable but sometimes it had a damp feeling but we put this down to the weather and humidity. No big problem at all.
STAFF
They work very hard to make your holiday special. Disappointing to see so many guests not even acknowledging or saying please and thank you. They do their best! We at one stage had a small problem and the hotel staff could not do enough to help us and then continued to check each day if everything was ok.

Great value for money, a great time and totally relaxing! We honestly cannot see why some have placed and average or bad review.

We just returned from six days at the Now Onyx Punta Cana Resort and our experience was outstanding. We were "Preferred Club" guests and from the minute we arrived to the minute we left property the service was excellent. Yes, the staff speaks Spanish - you're in the Dominican Republic, but we did not have any issues. My daughter and I speak very basic Spanish and whenever we tried, the staff gave us a big smile and complemented us for trying and tried to teach us more. It was a great learning experience for my 10-year-old.
The pool, which was steps from our room, was clean, the ideal temp and beautiful. There were plenty of pool and beach activities every day to keep our family busy. We did not get to the adult only pool, as it was a family vacation, but it was beautiful and the swim up bar looked divine.
The pool and beach wait staff were very friendly and attentive and came by just as a new drink was needed. The beach was breath taking. The Atlantic was warmer than the pools and ideal for snorkeling or just playing in the waves. We ate the Barefoot Grill every day - who can resist a nacho bar?
Our room was nicely decorated, a decent size and clean. The mini bar was kept well stocked with what ever we wanted and the maids were very sweet leaving "towel animals" every day for our daughter.
The five restaurants offered a variety of food and again the service was excellent.

My partner and I went to Now onyx back when they had there grand opening back in November 2016 had a blast. We decided to return for his birthday about 2 weeks ago and once again they nailed The customer service experience. You received a welcome back door treatment and because it was my partner's birthday we received a cake fruit basket champagne and I decked out cabana!! They definitely made my partner's birthday special. Thank you for the wonderful experience we look very forward to seeing you guys in the summer! Thank you!!
