After going through about 6 different check points, and getting hassled atevery single one, we boarded the plane, sat there for about 25 minutes, then I was pulled off the plane by security for a secondary inspection on my checked luggage. They pulled every single thing out, smashing my crystal ball on the table, poking the sub woofers on my Bluetooth speaker, questioned me about souvenirs I was bringing home, then just tosses everything back in my bag. It was all packed a certain way because there were electronics and other delicate items, and they proceeded to just throw everything back in the bag randomly. Never been hassled this much or this hard while travelling.

Small but nice airport. It is clean with all you need for waiting for your plain back home. Some area for small kids would benefit. All restaurants have prices on us dollars and accepts credit cards.

Worst airport experience flying on Jetblue. Waited for six hours with no update on why our flight ,in which we were seated on and taken off was taking so long to depart. No announcement from staff no apology no sorry for the inconvenience we were left stranded for answers for six hours to tell us our flight was cancelled. Family from New York City had to call Jetblue in order to speak to customer service then they left us in the dark accommodating us in the hotel stranded in the airport lobby. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED WITH JETBLUE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE

All the staff at the airport was very helpful! We had a broken baggage right at our arrival, they helped us through, told us where to go, what to do! Super polite! They made our vacation feel just like vacation!

People are nice but cab drivers will hustle you for a ride,don't pay no more then $25.00 us and that's even high. Just remember exchange rate when you land.

OVERPRICED FOR NO REASON!!!
GET READY TO WAIT AND WAIT AND WAIT!!!

If more than one plane deboards at the same time, get ready to wait forever to get through customs. For the Superbowl week, it took more than 3 hours to get through customs. Even with this size crowd, they only man half of their stations. OUTRAGEOUS! Slowest customs. This airport is also extremely overpriced. You'll pay just about double the cost of flying into Santiago or Santo Domingo. At least WiFi behind security is free, but in the common area, it is not. Get ready for a bunch of rip-off taxi drivers to charge outrageous gringo prices.

I would not recommend using this airport. Use Santiago or Santo Domingo instead.

Our first holiday in the Dominican republic and arrival to the airport was good, didn't have to wait long for luggage. But on return it was a nightmare. No organisation what so ever. Very slow, no proper information anywhere, arrived two hours before our flight and it took that long to get through security to board the plane. Would of liked to look around as we had never been there before. It really puts you off ever traveling to the country again which is a shame as we loved our holiday and the locals are great and friendly.

It's a bit better than the last time being here. They did definitely upgrade some of the facilities past security. Before security isn't that great some of the shopkeepers hassle you but it's not too bad and everything is very clean and there's lots of security. They don't make it very clear which forms you have to fill out before you leave though I guess that has more to do with airline staff training.

This isn't so much about the airport as it is about the currency exchange booth they have at the departure gates
If you have to use their services, MAKE SURE YOU WATCH THE PERSON WORKING CAREFULLY AND REVIEW ALL YOUR RECEIPTS
Before anyone says anything, I do admit that this is my fault for not rechecking the receipts, however being that this is an official currency exchange company located in the dead center of your airport, I felt like I could have a little faith in it
I requested $40 USD for departure tax for my friend and I, and I used my Visa to get it
Everything went through, he (the employee) gave my a nice plastic envelope type thing with everything inside of it
Wanting to get home, I just grabbed the $40 USD and put the rest of the envelope in my bag
It wasn't until I got home and checked my account that I noticed I was charged $146.51 CAD
Wondering how the fk $146.51 CAD = $40 USD, even with service fees, I decided to check that envelope to see what's up
I then saw that he charged me for $90 USD instead of $40 USD, so he pocketed $50 USD
I was wondering why he kept watching me after I got my money
And while I punched in my PIN number he watched closely
Pure BS
Now I know for next time
Hope yall don't get fk'd by this

I’ve been here several times and love it. The natives are very friendly and go out of their way for you. They even give you a shot in the airport on arrival! Who can beat that?! For those that complain must not travel international often. DR like many countries is very poor and relies heavily on tourism. Yes they may ask to take your bag, find you a taxi, or sell you something. This is just expected in so many countries. Overall, it’s wonderful and very safe. I suggest being smart, finding a friendly native, and allowing them to give you the run down or lay of the land.

US $3 for an espresso sized coffee
US $4 for the same coffee with milk That is overpriced

The Wi-Fi was supposed to be free but of course that wasn't working ( couldn't even notify Family about our 5hr delay )

There were many electrical outlets in the airport but half of them did not work it was a challenge to get your phone charged

Sunwing gate crew (Dominican employees) were very rude to customers threatening to fight passengers they even went as far as to calling customs officers on passengers who were complaining about the delay.

Sunwings gate crew also refuse to give passengers food or beverages until the 5hr delay time was reached.

Many passengers spent over US$50 within that five hour time limit on the VIP cigarette lounge and also food and beverages after the five hours have reached Sunwing finally decided to offer passengers A measly US $15 vouchers

I usually travel to Jamaica 🇯🇲 2 to 3 times a year with family this was my first time to the Dominican republic the people are great the country is beautiful but with this flight experience I will never go back to the 🇩🇴 The Dominican republic

Friendly and helpful attention in all areas. Very professional and respectful. Nice outdoor layout with an interesting use of old propellers as ceiling fans. I've always liked small airports and this is one of the best! :-)

It's just incredibly expensive, when comparing it with a ratio of regular market pricing vs airport premium, it's not 2-3 times more expensive, it's 12-15 times more expensive. To me it feels like robbery. And no its not Zurich of course, it's a hole in the wall airport raping gringos.

The people at Puerto Plata Airport are very friendly and polite. The Airport is very small and yes, the duty free areas are very expensive.
After security check there is no smoking area but there are some places to charge your phone (free).
I am a male traveling only with hand luggage and I experienced no kind of trouble. Smoking is allowed on the airport (except after security check) and there is also a nice roof terrace to watch the planes land and depart.
If you are a tourist you may have to fill out 2 documents (tourist pass, 10$ & blue) when you enter and one (white) when you leave the country.

Place is a total joke. The staff, Swissport, particularly are a bunch of pompous idiots who wouldn't know how to deliver a reasonable customer experience in their lives.

Wasn't impressed with the country either for 9 hours flight direct from the UK, there are many other options.

All the men on staff will undress you with their eyes. The employee that checked my sister's luggage flagged her bag for inspection as an excuse to get her alone in a room with 3 other male employees while all of them made intimidating and sexual comments towards her and my friend. As women we did not feel safe going anywhere in the airport (or the rest of the country) alone. Please give your male staff sensitivity training on how not to give women the impression that they're about to get kidnapped.
