Stole things from my room, guest services manager tried to set me up to make a complaint with the police so he could make some money off me, you see you can accuse someone of stealing your stuff but when the police come they can charge you for making a false allegation, which is what they do, and I'm sure David L. Understood that very clearly, he repeatedly enjoyed telling me how the hotel is not reaponsible, even though they give a key to your room to everyone there. Constantly random people knock on your door to see if you are in your room even if the do not disturb sign is on. They are hoping you don't respond so they can come in and check out the place. I tested this theory but putting the do not disturb sign on and not responding when they knocked.. I saw at least 10 different people do this. It's a real shame that they can't just hire honest people and have some vision of integrity. It pains me to write this because I've been there 10 times and they have some great staff and lots of potential, but I won't be back. You have been warned.
Great resort with lots of activities to keep you busy. The entertainment staff do a very good job at bringing people in and running fun and exciting activities at the pool. Great job to Tomas and Daniel, who ran a lot of our activities during our visit.
Food is good- lots to pick from and a lot of variety, so even picky people can find something.
The beach is average, but the great pool makes up for an average beach.
Would recommend this resort, and return in the future.
Just got home from a 7 day vacation at Bahia Principe San Juan in DR and it was amazing! The food was great, resort was huge and always tidy! The animation team always kept us entertained. Daniel and Juan Tomas made sure we were always having fun and well taken care of!! I would recommend this resort to anyone and will definitely be back!
Such an amazing time here for spring break! From the start, a really welcoming, helpful, and interactive staff! Always something fun and exciting to do here. The animation team, specifically Darismil and Daniel always kept everyone very involved and made sure every guest was having the best time. Would definitely return to this resort and recommend it to my friends! :)
Sand fleas were horrible until they sprayed poison while you ate beside the beach. Just back and have to say that we had no idea the hotel is 1.5 hours from the airport, and very isolated. So you are unable to walk anywhere without paying for excursions or taxi. Food was good except don't eat any vegetables. .they are washed with local water. Even the "a la carte" . I have never been so sick. Hotel staff refused to provide us with an upgraded room which we had paid for before arriving unless we paid more upon arrival.
I have traveled to many locations and easy going and flexible but unfortunately will never travel to this location again.
I had a nice experience staying one week in this resort.
Few remarks to let the potential clients know:
This is a resort concept not a hotel building, the rooms are not in one building, there are 8 rooms in each two floors units and are built on a large peace of land on both sides of the central service (reception, pool, and restaurants) area.
The resort is an hour and 20 minutes away from the airport in San Juan and is practically isolated from any urban area.
The restaurants, bars and hotel services are of good quality, but need improvements in many areas such as Canadian Channels on TV, better hygiene and cleanness in room and restaurant services.
The staff are nice and helpful, and the ambiance in general is great.
I would rate this exclusive resort a perfect 10!! I have a large family who have never traveled out of the U.S. and we all had the best time ever!! My daughter got married on the beach with the help of the resort wedding planner and it was perfect. We all want to go back for their 1st year anniversary! I would highly recommend this wonderful magical inclusive resort for any occasion especially for a great time away and fun in the Dominican Republic!!
Great hotel and awesome staff.. super clean and everyone was most helpful. The beach was not the best and if you are a true beach person this location would not be for you bur the overall resort was very nice. It's the oldest of the bahia resorts but very well maintained and extremely clean. The rooms were modest but enough..really who stays in their rooms anyway? The food was good and fresh. Careful of getting caught in spending 2 hours with the premiere club they try to sell.you on time shares with the bahia at 30000 US dollars it was an overall great experience and I would visit another Bahia in the future for sureif u are looking for a great deal and don't mind the beach being a bit below average this would be the place .
I am in Dominican with a huge wedding party at the Grand Baha’i Principe El Portillo and my friend is staying at this resort. 4 of us rented a car and drove over 2 hours to see him. Upon arrival the security guard refused us entry because we were not guests (we were all wearing wrist bands)
After speaking with front desk we were allowed entry but were all told we could not stay. We were given a 4 person security escort and promptly told to leave after being allowed to meet our friend in the lobby.
We were not allowed to stay regardless of being guests at another resort. We all decided to leave and go into town were the locals greeted us with open arms. We enjoyed a few beverages and caught up with each other for the afternoon.
It was a great time until we returned to the resort and got kicked out less than 10 minutes later. Funny thing is that we were seriously considering the tour we signed up for at our resort were they were going to showcase the other properties belonging to this chain.
I have shared our experience with our group once we returned to our resort. I am happy to say most members of our party has changed their mind on our tour and will be doing something else instead.
It makes little sense to be treated the way we were when we went to a resort belonging to the same chain.
Went here for a week with three friends. We booked two suites. When we got there instead of telling us they overbooked they brought us to regular rooms and didn't say anything. When we went back and complained they said they had overbooked the suites but one would be available within 48 hours. They ended up calling us 30 hours before we were scheduled to leave (5 days later) and telling us that like they promised our suites were ready. The offered us a lobster dinner as compensation. What a joke. Only once we opened a case with Expedia and the BBB did they give us a partial refund of $100 each which is another joke. We did not agree to anything rather we were told that $400 has been refunded to your card. After that they refused to even talk to us. SCAM. Stay away.
The staff kept rolling their eyes at almost everything. There was a clown that did the kids show, while passing through the crowd she had a little girl in her arms who was crying and the clown told her to shut up shes sweating more then she is.(hello!?) The food was not the best. The staff kept forgetting our orders. The beach is very dirty. The "karaoke DJ" was really annoyed of everyone wanting to sing. The night Club DJ messed up so many times everyone in there was already wondering what was going on, it was just after my boyfriend went to him that he noticed a women sitting on the DJ desk also making out with the DJ. By the sports the staff that was in charge of the sports equipment kept leaving, so you had no one to give you the stuff you needed.
I've been to many hotels in Dom. Rep. And this is by far one of the worst. I don't recommend it at all specially if you have kids or like night life.
Great place. Great food and all the employees really put an extra effort to make you feel great. I went with my wife while she was disabled from a broken bone from her foot and everybody was there to help us enjoy our stay. There are little golf karts that took us everywhere we wanted to go. The only downside I see is that when there were a lot of people in one area there were not enough employees to attend us all as they would normally offer (maybe they were too good when there was just us)
Absolutely amazing hotel, all staff are polite and friendly and will help you with anything .
The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and there is nothing I would complain about at all !!
The pools are all grate and a lot of fun.
The Day and night time activities are full off fun and are a great entertainment.
The animation team are all so friendly and will help with anything you need help with , they also make your visit to Bahia Principe a experience.
All rooms are cleaned daily and your mini bar is filled with hydrating beverages. Also they have bottled water which is important!
The beach gets cleaned and checked multiple times a day.
There is lots of activities which are a lot of fun (table tennis, mini golf, tennis,) also , there is activities which are taken place in the pool such as volleyball and aerobics.
Out side trips also be taken which are a one in a life time experience. (Jeep safari, blue lagoon, ocean world, zoo, scoobeer diving, ect).
Over all , the hotel is packed with fun and excitement there for taking a holiday to Bahia Principe San Juan should be on the cards , as it is a amazing experience.
Amazing Resort with Amazing Staff!! This resort was absolutely beautiful and it was right by the beach that made is very accessible. The food was okay, and most of the drinks were good but ultimately it was the staff that made the difference. Everyone single person was nice and greeted you upon walking past you and the service was amazing. Room service was quick and cleaned my room within an hour of me being gone for breakfast. The free water and drinks in the room were very convenient. The only two minor complaints was the TV only had a few channels and most of the time we got a "no signal" message and the shower temp was lukewarm at best. But was an amazing experience!
My stay here was alright. Food was about a 6/10. Beaches 6/10 and the staff were absolutely rude, except for the plumbers who came and fixed our toilet, they were very friendly and helpful. The front desk people were extremely useless. I stopped by to ask for a plumber 3 times in one night and still no one came. It was only the next day that they were able to UNCLOG MY toilet. The bartenders were good but a few servers were astonishly pushy and demanded money! One man even grabbed me to make sure I tipped him. That guy isn't cool. Anyways my trip was a 7/10 here because of food and staff.
The food was not the best! Thank goodness we were only there for 4 days and 3 nights. I couldn't imagine staying longer. I had something hard in my pancakes and no one did anything about it except apologize and ask for my room number. The pool needs to be maintenanced at least every half hour. People leave there empty cup drinks in the pool and no one comes to clean it. All three restaurants were not what my husband and I expected. The semi best restaurant amongst the three would be the Mediterranean one. We will not be returning to this resort. The food is never covered so there are a bunch of flies sitting on the food while it stays out in the open. The food doesn't stay fresh and is often cold! We wouldn't recommend this place. Not to mention it is far from the airport, and there is only one road that takes you there.
I had such an amazing time here, the facility was really nice and very well maintained, the food was nice, but I was the service that puts this resort over the top and exceeded my expectations. The servers in the restaurant were very attentive and we did not have to wait for anything. The bartenders, especially Ramon, Junior and Zunelda were fun energetic and very personable. The staff at the spa were so professional. Thanks for an amazing time Grand Bahia!!!
Great vacation on a budget! The Hilton it's not, but for food, drinks, rooms you can't ask for more. Been here twice, well worth it for a quick vacation when you want the best bang for your buck. Best time to come is May or August to October. It's there slow month where it's less crowded and prices are cheaper.
During our stay at the Bahia Principle San Juan we had the pleasure of meeting so many great smiling staff members. They make you feel comfortable and continuously smile even under pressure. Kudos to all the hard working beautiful staff. I would definitely recommend this resort.
Bahia Principe has built up a name for themselves and this is why I'm very disappointed with the resort. From the moment you arrive you see the broken down lobby and the run down resort. The rooms when we first got there where clean at first but the individual who cleaned the rooms did not come for 3 days after that. There was no water pressure so we could not shower for two days and the staff was reluctant to fix the issue and did not provide any type of help. The rooms where infested with bugs everyday, I killed at at least 2 cockroaches a day inside my room. When I went to the front desk they said they would fumigate the area so they put signs in the area that said they where treating the bugs I watched all day they did nothing except remove the signs at night. The "fancy" dinner took two hours receive our main course and they where out of the 2 of the 5 main dishes majority of the nights. Just a very bad resort and staff all around even their drinks are watered down. Was denied access to the buffet even though I was not wet but had swimming cloths on. Would not recommend this resort to anyone.
Why would you want to come to this particular Bahia Principe in San Juan Dominican Republic?
Eddy, Raphael, Jose Luiswaitsimply too hard because of the little things, ALL STAFF in dining room from cooks (Leonardo's - Omelettes), chefs, custodial team (Marino), are all first rate fun, genuine, and excellent.
The Manager of this hotel at the time of writing (past few years we know of), is a top of the line, approachable class act.
Such people as Heriberto Garcia at front entrance, or say Waldy (complaints/restaurant reservations), or Felix (Excursions), or say Augustin (Photography) are all part of a marvellous team that make this resort #1.
The Room Maid Service team is the best and most respectful and proficient.
Front desk team are always courteous with utmost respect, with a very tough job serving ungrateful people no matter how hard they try.
Maria, from cleaning staff is an absolute gem ++++ the entire grounds team are always smiling in between making the grounds look amazing ++++ the entertainment team = AAA+ wonderful warm and delightful.
Now considering this is a budget hotel resort according to its great prices, a person, couple, or family, seeking a genuine relaxing, or live-it-up holiday, with some terrific available outside excursions, simply cannot go wrong at this Grand Bahia Principe Hotel Resort in San Juan, Dominican Republic. The people are clearly redefining servant-hood!
We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff are very friendly and very helpful, always with a smile. The food was excellent for all meals, with a good variety of everything from meats, veggies, fresh fruit, desserts, ice cream, breads & rolls and huge display of shrimp and cheeses. They supply a tram/trolley service from your room to the front entrance and back, 24/7, with friendly drivers. There were lots of beach chairs available and pool chairs. Bar service was very good and they also served on the beach. We would go back again.
Overall our family of 4 had a good time (Dec 29-Jan 5 2017) but that is due to meeting great people and participating in lots of activities and nice weather.
Beware of the following: 1. you will leave with bug bites - about 70% of people had them whether you were beach or pool 2. we had 1 outlet to charge all devices in the bathroom 3. ALL staff speak VERY minimal english and it was difficult to get them to understand any questions or have conversations 4. Two separate times our hotel door was left UNLOCKED by their staff (although there is a safe in room and nothing was taken) 5. you will tire very quickly of the buffet as they do not rotate in any new items - it is the same EVERY DAY. 6. some evening shows by professionals and others were just by the entertainment staff 7. the Italian and Asian restaurant meals were not great but the Mediterranean met our expectations.
Positive - there were many different activities available like beach volleyball, soccer, archery, pool games, darts, dancing, badminton, ring toss etc. Fun atmosphere for kids.
