The Restaurant Meson de la Cava opened its doors in 1967, since that time it has been one of Santo Domingo’s most popular restaurants for both Dominicans and Tourists from all over the world. It is situated in a natural lime stone cave, created millions of year ago by the waves action when the coast line hugged this cliff. The numerous caves along the cliff sheltered many different types of people through its long history. Remains of the native Taino Indians have been discovered here. Along with pirates and buccaneers who used these caves as a hideout in preparation for their frequent assaults on the city of Santo Domingo.

This place is amazing. Awesome atmosphere and great food. I would recommend the salmon. It's fine licking good. Great place for a date. Very romantic. It's also very pricey.

My all-time-favorite restaurant in DR. Lovely and romantic setting in the inside of a natural cave. Decorated to make you feel at home. Great service, great food. You could never go wrong when you chose to come here for a quite and romantic time with your better half.

Eating in the cave is a must. There are some historical artifacts scattered around. Cool stuff. But the food. It was beyond amazing. The Salmon was one of the best I've ever had. The Goat (chivo), I can't speak more highly of that dish. I won't leave the island without having it again. I'm so full right now.

Ambience was great, however food was horrible, cold steaks and really expensive price. Would never go again. A lot of options in Santo Domingo in which your money will be by far more valued. If you are not a regular restaurant visitor you will like it, on the other hand if you are used to restaurants there is only one word to describe the food and it is nauseous , besides you will end up paying 30% than the top restaurants in the city. Don’t go.

If you are anywhere near this place go! Dress nice and be ready to be impressed. We ordered 2 apps and 4 different meals with different meats and seafood and a soup. All were amazing. Yes the wine is a little overpriced (about 20% more for restaurant price)and I could care less because the food prices amd atmosphere made up for that and then some. Cheers.

I was pleasantly surprised! I have been to many restaurants in SD yet this one ranked in my top 5. Very good food, Felipe and Anna are the best!!! Wine was a but overpriced yet we had a great time! The music was an awesome finish!

a different place located in underqround grute; at the sea shore; the place is 50 years old, well mantained and tended. Ask for the salmon on a wood tablet, is delicious; get it with grilled veggies.Coffee is fantastic.response / report this review -

Unique atmosphere in a cave. The food is very good, with a varied menu (but curiously no pork dishes) and excellent service. Also has an outside garden area with live music in the evenings.

A restaurant in a cave in Mirador Park. Thisplace have been around like 40 years. It has different areas and their food is very good. Great for couples, or small groups. They have some days live music.

Cool concept. Very good service, though they continue to try to upcharge you throughout the meal. BUT, honestly the worst food I've ever had anywhere in the world. Steak was ordered medium well and came raw. Sent back, same thing. Other other dish had multiple substitutions for what was ordered with only a "Something special from the chef just for you. You will enjoy" explanation. We did not enjoy. And they would not remove any charges from our bill for what we refused to eat.
