A rare gem. Sadly damaged beyond repair in a recent storm. Plans are well underway to rebuild the resort in the soufriere area.
Your first reminder that you are far from home is the short drive from the airport to the Jungle Bay Resort. A mere 35 miles will require about 90 (+/-) minutes, depending on traffic and the weather. The roads are OK in Marigot but quickly become primitive and sketchy in some places.
The resort is truly a well conceived and executed plan. When booking, they offer a meal plan or going ala carte. Initially, I was thinking of going local for meals. That would have been quite a challenge, as there are few options for food, and even fewer most of us tourists would be comfortable trying. So if you go, stick with the meal plan!
The Jungle Bay meals were really very good, lots of fresh vegetables, fish and meats. This is as close to roughing it this 50 something guy would go for. The cabin was about 92 steps up, but really very nice being in the Dominican jungle.
If you are seeking a real unplugged get away, this is quite a rewarding destination. Lots of day hikes and planned excursions. If you think you want to, then get up and do it!
Incredible hotel, great rooms, food, excursions. Owner Sam is very nice.
Great fun place to stay. I was there for 4 nights last year and cannot fault it. There are plenty of excursions and the staff are very efficient and friendly.
Go there.
Beautiful scenery and ambience; atypical "Caribbean" honeymoon with lots of guided- but authentic- things to do.
