In spite of the fact that the server seemed to not particularly like me, the place has a really great, warm atmosphere. I was sitting on a comfortable couch in the corner where one can order a drink or from the menu. I was just having a beer and tried a local liquor.
Good, not so expensive food, great service
Great food and service. Wide choose od wines.
Schönes Leben ist nicht so schoen 1) Before I will get started on service, a note on food: food is OK. But that's it. I mean, nothing inedible, just okay food. We have ordered a starter of 3 different herrings, a seasonal dish of fish and pumpkin risotto and a wiener schnitzel. Fish was fine, nothing extraordinary. And a schnitzel was not even near the standard. Thick, chewy and very plain. 2) The service was extremely ignorant and just unprofessional. I have reserved a table and when we've arrived, we had to wander about 10 minutes around the restaurant trying to find someone who would show us our table. At the end we found a table with our name on it and it was standing in direct sunlight. Since I wasn't planning on getting a tan that day, we have sat at another table and it took 10 more minutes to find a hostess and explain that to her. Then it took 10 more minutes to get a waitress to bring us the menus. Than food came quite quickly but it took minimum 20 minutes to ask for a bill, then about 10 to find someone that would accept our payment.
Combined with a food that was so much not what was expected of a place with such high ratings, we had a very unpleasant experience in Schoenes Leben.
Very nice place with comfy sofas, great for coffee and cake. It seemed the get fairly busy with locals and big groups for dinner as we happily stayed for about 4-5 hours catching up with a friend as it was so nice.
Wonderful restaurant in a great location in downtown Hamburg. Would definitely recommend!
The dinner was ok, but for the price not what we expected for example the burger bread was to soft (lapprig!). The atmosphere of the place is nice and if you plan to have some drinks in the Speicherstadt.
Great place to spend the afternoon. Great atmosphere and delicious food!
Went there twice so far. First time I was sitting outside with friends for a few drinks after work. Right next to Hafencity and old warehouses/canal zones and the atmosphere was lovely. Second time I had tried the Groningen beer on a cold autumn night, taste was absolutely amazing. Ordered the steak from locally produced beef, very rich taste and certainly delicious. Last time went there with a group of colleagues and had some traditional northern German food (as shown in the photo) and of course the Groningen beer which had then become my favorite beer. The drinks and food were amazing at all times. The decor of the restaurant is posh yet cosy and intimate, suitable for both dates and friends gathering. Would recommend.
Great place to eat and drink in an upmarket ambience. It is located in an old building but inexpensive and is quite large and spacious. It felt relaxed, but the upscale interior and very friendly, forthcoming and professional staff made it feel like a hotel restaurant - with reasonable prices. The food served is also traditional, but sports a small upmarket twist, e.g. they serve their curry sausage (which is pleasantly huge) with sweet potato fries instead of with the commonly used potato fries. Vegetarian options were available, in fact they avail of a vegetarian menu. They serve wine as well as beer, soft drinks and coffee and really varieties. Schönes Leben is located in the historical Speicherstadt, so the views are great as well. Outside seating is available. Overall one of the greatest places in the Speicherstadt to sit and relax and to enjoy one's stay in this district to one's heart's content.
