We only the dinner at the restaurant and enjoyed it. Everything was fresh and delicious. We had the pumpkin cream soup, schnitzel, deer goulash and sauerbraten. Service was friendly and attentive. We had a great dinner.

Very scenic, well situated hotel. Bedrooms were very comfortable. We had a balcony with a view of the castle, and a private washroom with a heated towel rack. Included breakfast was more than adequate.

We ate at reataurant and food was great. Kids got some coloring pages and crayons from the waiter. Waiters are very polite, service is quick, you don't have to wait a long time for your meal.

Close to both Castles. Neat, clean and spacious rooms with balcony (15 and 16 top floor). Walls are a bit thin so hope that you don't have noisy neighbours. The free wifi is good. The hotel offers both a restaurant and quick lunch/beer stand.

Having everything you need so close to each other right next to the castles is very convenient. Would visit again.

We stayed 2 nights (double room with balcony) from 3 April to 4 April 2017 (off-peak season).

Overall: 3.5/5 – Decent hotel option in Hohenschwangau but do manage your expectation as you are in the country-side. Hotel Alpenstuben is basically an odd-mix of an indoor-restaurant, 2 souvenir shops, 2 food-stands and a small outdoor beer garden on the ground floor and 2 floors of hotel on top.

Cleanliness: 5/5 – Very clean room, WC/bathroom and open-air balcony! Well done!

Accessibility: 3.5/5 - 3 minute up-hill walk from main bus stop of Hohenschwangau, though you need to take a 7-10 minute bus ride from Füssen train station (~ EUR5 for 2 adults). Major drawback: Hotel Alpenstuben does not offer Schwangau card, which give guests free bus rides in Schwangau region, including Hohenschwangau where Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles are located. So you need to pay for costly bus rides to Füssen and nearby sights like Tegelbergbahn (cable car), Forgensee (lake cruise) etc, when walking is not an option for elderly or young children. We will rent a car in our next visit.

Comfort: 3/5 – Decent-size room with open-air balcony but WC/bathroom is tiny (literally a “standing shower-box”); small cupboard, few storage area or places to hang stuff; complimentary small bed for our son (danke schön!) Good view of Neuschwanstein castle from the balcony; NO elevators, so good luck with bulky luggage in this 3 storey hotel! Good Wifi but limited to 100MB per room (which we used up pretty quickly by morning of 2nd day).

Food: 3/5 – Breakfast buffet included; reasonable variety and quality; asked nicely for hot chocolate. Complimentary bottle of water in the room (danke schön!).

Hospitality: 3/5 – English-speaking owner/staff are mostly friendly before and during our stay. Major drawback: nobody answers reception phone after cleaning ladies get off work around 4-5pm, so need to call restaurant for help (e.g., need to go down to ground floor to personally pick up extra towers etc)

Ambience: 3/5 – Reception area is pretty small and accessible either through restaurant or back-entrance (passing through the beer garden and storage area). Restaurant and room are cosy, looks like a typically German country-side taverns/hotel. Could be noisy during the day with passing tourists or restaurant guest but not an issue for us as we are mostly out. No horse-poo smell, which affects nearby Hotel Müller Hohenschwangau.

The Service was good because you will get everything in 10 minutes. They will serve you frozen food from super Market. I am sure that that the pizza I ate was from some super market.

The food is delicious. I recommend the three types of Würstel and fries. The meat melts in your mouth and the portions are large.
