The worst service I have ever experienced. Do not go here! From the very beginning, the waiter was rude and unfriendly. He refused to serve one of our party a coffee despite it being on the menu. We made a big effort in speaking German while he muttered under his breath about how he didn't want to help us and starting bitching about us to the people next to us. When it came to paying, he wasn't happy about us paying separately by card despite there not being an issue for the table next to us. I never leave reviews but felt I need to express my anger about such terrible service. Avoid at all costs! We would have been better off at MacDonalds.

Absolutely love this place! Great beer and good food at cheap prices. Service is generally excellent considering how busy it is. I have been here multiple times and it never disappoints.

** PLEASE BOYCOTT THIS AWFUL PLACE *** Of all the Kolsch breweries in the centre of Cologne, this is the one you should absolutely avoid. The staff are there for one thing only: ripping off tourists at all costs. Amongst the ways they do this is to add their own tips to your bill, without telling you of course (this will not happen anywhere else other than here), and then when you give them a tip, they will of course not tell you that they've already decided to add a tip for themselves. Really, please, this sort of repulsive place where they encourage the staff to screw the customers should be boycotted. The other Kolsch breweries in Cologne are all far better than here. It's also filthy with very poor food. *** PLEASE DON'T GO ***

Great place. Excellent brewery house food. The beer is great, Gaffel is one of the top three local (Kölsch) beers. It can be pretty busy, so you might have to wait for a table. Right across the street from the Cathedral. Also close to the main train station.

Great place to go for Kolsch beer right beside the cathedral. Very spacious and food is good and a-plenty. While service was speedy, a little friendliness could make it 5 stars.

Good ambiance - very lively place. Food is quite decent and price is reasonable. Good spot to go if you're a tourist.

Beautiful old brewery, just for the decoration, it's worth it. The traditional food is well cooked, in big portion but not so delicate and they also serves lunch menus for workers. It is well known and famous, so a bit touristic. The gaffel beer is of course a must.

After being greeted by a lovely lady, we bought and paid for two beers and sat down. After they were drunk, she come over to the table and asked if we wanted two more, which we did. She made a mark on a coaster to signify that we owed money for two beers. Halfway through the drinks one of her male colleagues comes over and speaks German (which is understandable), I tell him we are ok (in English), and that we don't require further service. He looks at me like I was the rudest person ever, and walks away. He comes back again after we finish our beers and again speaks in German. I say (in English) that I would like to pay for two beers, and I already have the money ready on the table. He picks up the empty glasses and says "3 Euro 60" and walks off. I'm left sitting there with my money, waiting to pay. After having a good chat with other customers, and colleagues, he comes back. He picks up the money, looks at it like it's barely worth picking up, takes out a two euro coin, and slams it on the table, before he turns his back to me and walks away.

I will never go back to this place. Beer is more expensive than other places, and the waiter is rude. The lady was nice though

A great brew pub right by the Cathedral - well worth a stop! Had a lunch here too, great prices and classic German pub grub. Drops a star because I found the Kolsch to be a little bit sweeter than I prefer, but my wife loved it! Staff were great too!
