Awesome snorkeling. Beach not so great but worth it for the snorkel experience
Snorkeling was nice. The tugboat is cool but not the most vibrant coral. Lots of sea life. Has as much fun exploring the coral and saw some beautiful fish. Kids had fun combing the beach for shell and beach glass
Great spot, would be a 5 if it weren't for the large drilling ship parked right beside the site (for repairs and maintenance, not actually drilling). Although maybe that helps protect the site a little from the surf, but certainly detracts from the beauty of the area. The tugboat is cool and in pretty shallow water so even beginners can get down to the floor at the site and look inside the boat. Saw lots of fish, squid, it was a quick trip because we were on a kayak tour. The old fort is cool and it is a 5 minute walk from the site. Remarkable engineering considering the time period. Definitely go here.
Really cool rustic place. Not anything like I expected. There is this awesome little beach shack and snorkel-gear rental place right next to the beach and usually you'll find this old guy there running things. His name is Bert. Friggin AWESOME guy. This guy has forgotten more about snorkeling and skin-diving than most people will ever know. So it's worth your time to talk with him for a few minutes before you head out snorkeling.
But even better, Bert is full of the most amazing life stories. If you have the time, sit down at the round table, relax, and talk to him for half an hour. I'm telling you - THIS is the kinda guy that Jimmy Buffett songs are written about. One of the most interesting men I've ever met.
The beach shack here is REALLY rustic. Bathrooms are about as bad as you can imagine. But it's cool because at least someone set up something here. Otherwise it would be a boring beach with no bathroom at all, no food or drinks and nobody to tell you where the tugboat is.
The snorkeling near the tugboat and the big piers is pretty good. But the REALLY good snorkeling is out settings the corner a ways, which can be difficult to get to in windy days with bigger waves. But here's a tip, if you go back on the road you came in on, and take the road to the right almost immediately, you'll head up the small mountain. Then you can find the REALLY great hidden snorkel beach that us Crystal blue waters. You'll know it when you find it.
Good place for snorkeling here. But the real highlight of this trip is the killer shack and Bert.
good place for snorkeling and diving. 50m to the left is the sunk tugboat.
Nice place were you can swim near and to the tugboat. Advice: take some bread with you for the fish. They will eat it out of your hand.
Interesting shore dive site. The small tugboat is accessable for snorkeling and sits on the bottom at 3m to the left just beyond 3 large tie-up pilings, and maybe 30-40m from the immediate rock shore. There is a wall worth viewing just beyond and to the left and occasionally shows a current (East bound), so save air to swim back. Another spot to check out with scuba is under the dock next to the beach where the big ship is, and between pilings. Lots of juveline fish. Keep safe and away from the ship.
Keep in mind this is a site with a history of heavy duty construction and human activity, so there is lots of steel junk underwater, mostly covered with sediment and coral.
The bottom of the ship is fairly clean so they either employ periodic scrapping and cleaning, or the bottom paint on the ship is superlethal.
Great for diving and snorkelling. Limited swimming opportunities.
True, there is a tugboat lying under water and many fish. But there are also big ships docked which ruin the view.
Nice snorkeling to the tug boat
Great snorkeling and diving by a sunken tugboat. Lots of colourful fish in the water. The beach itself is not that great so if you are looking for sunbathing on a nice beach you might want to find something else.
Well worth the visit. Great fish and coral
Slechte bereikbaarheid en dan ineens is er een strandtentje. Strand niet zand maar stenen. Wel rustig maar naast een pier waar een boot licht.
Undiscovered beaty
Free access to a cool submerged tugboat. Loved the area for snorkeling. Went 11/24/16.
Great snorkeling!
Totally free beach where you can snorkel to the underwater tugboat. They have beach chair rentals, bar and lockers.
