I cannot believe my tax dollars help fund this bureaucracy. Not helpful and not keen to the needs that US citizens may have arise.

My sister had the interview to immigrate to USA on 11/17/2017. The officers there didn't bother in even looking at her or the papers for the scheduled interview. They told her "you have to watch the news and be informed that we are not given interview to anyone" REALLY? Now what? Who has an answer? I heard, "interview in Colombia" REALLY? who is paying for the trip? the hotel? the food? Is there a -5 star ?

I was visiting Havana for a few days and I had the misfortune of becoming a victim of pickpocketing, lost all of my money. Myself being a U.S. citizen my first thought was to go to the U.S. Embassy. I arrived and I was met by security etc. So far so good. They escort me to a booth and I explain my situation to a young woman she hands me a form to fill out and tells me "when you're done filling out the form we will go over your options." I spend 5 minutes filling out the paperwork and I hand it to the young lady and then she tells me that they only facilitate communication between people and that they have no cash, no atm, none of that. Myself having no one to call I get stuck in Cuba with no money. A U.S. citizen with no way to get any form of money from anyone stuck in a foreign country cashless. This embassy is useless if you run out of money.

They charge $160 for nothing. 80% of visas are denied for nothing. Probably they receive a salary for doing nothing or at leastsure not for doing interviews. If US does not care about those that do not receive a visawell..that is comprehensive. However, what about those that do obtain a visa? If the interview consists only of 5 min where they merely ask for the reason to visit US and the name of your relatives.Are they really doing their job? Are they really filtering those with intentions to remain in US illegally from those who actually want to come as visitors? Something is not right.

I'm not going to necessarily blame the embassy but maybe it's the state department quotas or practices. Giving Cubans false hope that they will get tourist visas to visit friends, family when they're turning down I'm guessing most of the tourist visa requests. Taking $160 from poor people or their families, knowing that they won't get to travel there is kind of bad. Theypolicy for who can apply for a visa is broad, but in practice who they actually issue to appears quite limited. Not sure if they've reduced the numbers of visas issued but if they would be up front about the real reason they're rejecting people can stop receiving false hope of visiting friends and family or they can re-apply when circumstances change.

Consular officers refused to listen to my relatives responses to their broken spanish questions during her long awaitted and expensive interview. Did not bother to even review documents supporting the fact that my relative has no interest in staying in the U.S. permanently. Extremely dissatisfied with the service, no different from what you expect from Cuban officers. Ashamed this is the behavior of our American officers abroad.

I went to Starbien cafeteria twice on our trip to Cuba. We stayed in vedoro across from amore Italian gelato place which is about 1 mile away from US embassy. Great place to have breakfast and dinner. Cheap and awesome service. people were very friendly and they will help you with menu. they don't speak English well so use google translate and they understand it. breakfast for 2 people with eggs, toast and coffee is $2.50 and lunch is around $5 per person. They have the best coffee machine I guess they are across from US embassy and they have running water. Thank god in a restaurant! You won't be disappointed. cool breeze at all times. It was really good.
