A famous tourist bar/restaurant that was apparently the birthplace of the Mojito cocktail since it's opening in 1942 and because of the personalities which have patronized it such as Nobel Prize-winning American writer Ernest Hemingway, Salvador Allende, the poet Pablo Neruda, the artist Josignacio and many others.

The walls outside and inside are covered by signatures of famous, local or tourist customers. Bring a sharpie to sign your name and leave your mark in Havana!

The dining rooms inside are full of objects such as jerseys, frames, photos.

The bar was really busy. The inside of the restaurant was less busy.

We ordered the creole fish which was flavourful. The dishes come with sweet potatoes and black beans and rice.

Have to stop here for the famous mojitos! I love the rice and plantains although the pork was a little drier than I would prefer. Definitely stop by for the experience. Music and drinks on two levels

Well.if you’re not just out for checking this place of your “to do” list I would avoid it. It’s beautiful with history, yes, but you get better drinks, better atmosphere and prices at many other bars in Havana.

I believe anyone who is visiting Havana would make a stop here given the history behind it. Every time I passed it and then when I eventually visited it, it was always packed and crowded. I loved the ambiance, decor, the nostalgia and the feeling this place evoked. The music that was played during our visit was great. But the food was disappointing. I had the shrimp dish. The shrimp were large in quantity but lacked flavor and was under cooked. But from my friends I heard that the pork dish was amazing. They also didn't have all the drinks that were on the menu. Overall a place that I will visit to just tick it off a must do list. But that's about it. Doesn't warrant a return unless it's for a quick Mojito break!

Lunch at La Bodeguita del Medio was awesome, we had mojito and Cuban food, ropa vieja! The interior decoration was interesting, there was a chair hung upside some close to the ceiling.
One star was deducted because it's too touristic, there were basically no local Cuban customersOur guide told us its too expensive for the locals

This was a fantastic wee bar and the mojitos were just incredible!

It's a very busy bar so you may have to wait to get in but it's worth it. As small as it was, they still managed to fit a band in to play music while you drink.

Every nook and cranny was covered in messages written by customers and it was almost impossible to find a spot to write our names.

The food wasn't anything to write home about but if you're in the area, get in there for a drink!

This will go down as our worst restaurant experience ever. We left unsatisfied - tourist over priced food that wasn't that good. Within several hours my husband became extremely ill and was unable to leave where we were staying the entire next day. As if that wasn't terrible enough several months after being there he was diagnosed with an effing tapeworm. Tape worms are rare in the United States and come from more third world type countries and it came from pork. I am confident in saying it came from this restaurant. Drink your over priced (for Cuba) mojito but beware of what and where you eat!

Went only to the bar as it's the worst mojitos we had in Cuba by far by quality and price. 5 CUC compared to most places charging 2.50 CUC. We arrived just as the band was finishing up and they forced us to tip and wouldn't leave until we did. Felt very bullied here.

Fantastic historic bar located at the heart of Old Havana. Indeed, it is crowded, but they probably have the best (and the most expensive) mojito of the whole Havana (5 CUC). Live music performance is a big plus for a cheerful atmosphere. A definitely must-go place.

A lovely bar and restaurant full of history.
Place where the original ( and much less Sweet ( thankfully) Mojito was made .
For those seeking a pilgrimage around the world for the original home of a cocktail this is a must stop bar on the list.
Live music upstairs and souvenir ships nearby for people who want that kind of thing.

Only been to the bar which is a tourist spot as it was a Ernest Hemingway hangout. Nothing spectacular but when busy had a bit of a buzz during the day. The food is supposed to be good.

A little "touristy", but nevertheless a "must-be" in La Habana. Very nice bar with real Caribbean flair. Feels like holiday there. The Combo "Sol y Son" is stellar! Take the time and listen not only for one song. It's worth it. Really nice rhythms and vibrations. Truly Cuban!

The original La Bodeguita Del Medio famous all over the world. The place is very crowded, it has people all the time, at any part of the day. It's really hard to find a table, but actually you don't need one, there are people that are standing in front of the place and drinking cocktails. It;s OK even if you just want to enter inside to have a look at the place and read the inscriptions on the wall, pictures from the famous people that have visited this place.

A live band that was jamming! The lead singer was awesome and engaging, and the lady on the flute was magical.

And, the mojitos were delightful. It's also fun to watch the bartender make like 10 mojitos at a time. Small tiny little spot, with signed celebrity photos on the wall, and a wooden wall panel that you're welcome to scratch your tag into.

A tourist trap, of course. But a fun one, with cocktails, nothing bad about that
