To describe it one really need to let go of all stresses and this place will really attempt to let you do so. Beaches a 10+ the hotel rooms are very clean, however I see that there are shortcuts and flaws in the execution and that is mostly because the hotel is build in a hurry to get tourists in. Everything functions, don't get me wrong but sliding doors might not lock and you might notice in the shower that tiles have been replaced by non matching - who cares really. So now to the rest of the beautiful resort. The staff, yes those people that make it work, they are wonderful. I am really humbled by their gratitude and attitude to make it happen. The first night we found we were a little close to the excitement as we are light sleepers. So we asked to be moved, in 30 minutes they had everything arranged. We could barely pack it all up and moved into a room further away from the music. Food, unlike a lot of people I truly enjoy the Cuban food. I love fish and there is plenty of it. Since this is all inclusive it really is something to sit in a large area and see how fast staff is cleaning and serving. My advice to travelers: leave them a tip, next time they will remember. From gardners to the lovely ladies at the coffee bar, I can not say enough kind words. El Patriarca is also very green, just take a gander and look at the solar and water treatment facilities on premise. A lot of effort has gone into keeping the footprint on nature as small as possible. The beaches, did I already mention the beaches? Hours become days and relaxation sets in with a feeling of guilt the first days but with great fun following. In the morning going for a three hour walk to the point is so relaxing, seeing birds and wildlife I had only seen on TV. Ten days flew by and in the end my wife and I have dear memories. The entertainment in the evening was top notch and listening and dancing to the music becomes part of vacation. In Varadero we found a restaurant that was on 59-60 street. Best seafood ever!! Will I be back? You betcha!! After Mexico this seems to be like heaven.

We loved this resort !!! As is known about Cuba in general, the food isn't at the 5* level, yet we still had lots of wonderful food to eat. We found that the "a la cartes" weren't any better than the buffet and the buffet, of course has more variety so we tuck with the buffet. They change it up and we were always well fed.
The pool is wonderful. The pool bar is wonderful. The rooms are clean and spacious. We greatly enjoyed the Cuban music and the Cuban art - both very lively and colourful. We were quite intrigued by the Cuban history and politics. Our day-trip to Havana was very informative and enjoyable.
The Cubans were all very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed chatting with many of them. They certainly knew how to keep us happy! We kept exchanging money for more pesos in order to be able to tip everyone who served us. We had started to know many of their names.
My husband indulged in Cuban cigars and I picked up some nice jewellery at very reasonable prices. We enjoyed the small bands that would show up in every restaurant we were at. We purchased a few CD's.
The beach is wonderful, as is the beach bar. We had great weather and great entertainment at the theatre. This was a terrific vacation. We would come back in a flash!!!response / report this review
