My wife and in-laws spent two nights with Maira and Pedro at Villa Mariana in late March, 2017, and had a fabulous stay with them. They are generous and warm hosts and serve delicious strong coffee in the morning. They arranged taxis for us so that we could visit local beaches (Playa Coral) and the Rio Caminar, and Pedro even accompanied us boating up the Rio Caminar and showing us around. Maira and Pedro don't speak English well, but my wife speaks fluently, so we were able to get by wonderfully. We had dinner at the casa both nights, and we talked for hours both nights. The neighborhood is simple and residential, and out of the way of the main city of Matanzas, but this location is quiet and next to its own beach, Playa Buey Vaca, which, though trashy, provides a good swim and interaction with locals.
