My experience in Thrifty in Costa Rica was really really bad. I would not recommend to use this company. First of all, we request to bring the car to the hotel. Once they came to the hotel they informed us that we need to go to the office, crossing all San José. At the end we could leave one hour later. Moreover, we paid the insurance at all risk and when we returned the car, they found a small scratch and they made us pay 150 US dolars, saying that they were doing a discount because the normal price was 600 US dolars. I have tried to contact them and they do not reply. I would definitely not recommend this company. I think it's a big scam

Thrifty advertised fraudulent prices and will not honor them, nor take any action. I reserved a Thrifty car for $87 and printed out my reservation. When we arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica, the car cost us $545.64 ($120 of that was for a wifi stick that did not work so well to get GPS navigation)! They refused to honor our reservation price and also made us pay an overpriced cost for car insurance even though we were already covered by our credit card as well as our insurance company back home. We were completely stuck with the car. I voiced my complaints on Thrifty's customer service/complaint email when we returned to the US, but they told me they had no jurisdiction over Thrifty in Costa Rica - even though they publish the prices on their website. There is no recourse and no accountability with this company! The case number is 00282105

    STAY AWAY FROM THRIFTY!!!
Our car keys were stolen in Uvita and after calling Thrifty three times - because they never called us back - we got an Information that they had to send us a new car from San Jose, and we should stay near the car until they arrive, aproximately after 4 hours. We just waited for SEVEN HOURS under the darkness, the place dangerous, no light, no clothes, no water, being bitten from mosquitos. The driver came and gave us no explanation about the delay, we coundn't check if the car had damages since there was no lights, we wanted to get out of there as quick as possible.
The next morning we decided to end our holidays earlier and give the car back. At Thrifty's office the check-out inspection of the car was made without my presence, at this moment I was inside the office trying to know about the delay of the driver the day before and the procedures to be made. I got the bill with regarding the service assistance, key change, fuel and scratch damage on the car that we definetly didnt make. Even if the supervisor Ericka Pacheco saw the check in- and out inspection of the fuel gauge from both cars showing that the new one was delivered even with less gasoline than ours, she "couldn't void" the amount on my credit card and told me the customer service would do it. Of course I never got my money back, never knew the reason for such a delay of bringing the car and also had to spend hundreds of Dollars for scratches I never made. So STAY AWAY from these thieves!!! Bad Service, bad everything!!!

Easy process from booking to bringing back the car. The car was in excellent condition. Friendly and professional staff and perfect service. One day later, we got the deposit back.

Super slow service, not friendly, not really good prices
Edit: upon returning the car, I can say once again that it is the worst car rental place I have ever been to. Please watch for the counter girl called Leslie, she tried to rip us off upon return too. Worst experience ever.
