One of the best tour operator in this country

We booked our trip with Tripmasters and the tour was handled by the local agency Swiss travel. Well, we didn’t have problems with the hotels but the transfers were poorly organized with the schedule that best fits them, our times were changed at their leisure. My boyfriend missed the flight and I needed to arrange an additional transfer form San Jose to La fortuna, and they quoted me 400$!!! The airplane ticket to Costa Rica is 250$, I understand that short nice requires a premium but after making one phone call I was able to arrange transfer service for 170$ and I am sure if I kept calling I would have gotten a much better deal. Well, if you can avoid this agency, think twice, otherwise just expect transfers whenever it is convenient for them and of course the vans are very uncomfortable as well.

AVOID Swiss Travel, they don't really care about your safety.
On November 6, 2017, my family of four were on a mega-combo tour with Swiss Travel which I booked while staying at The Westin in Gunacaste. On our return back to the hotel, they put the four of us in a different van with a different driver. The driver was speeding (about 75-80 mph) and driving unsafely. The driver didn't seem to notice that he was driving at about 75-80 mph directly into the back of a stopped car. My husband yelled "lookout" and by the grace of God, the driver swerved into the opposite lane to try to avoid hitting the car and luckily the oncoming car in that lane swerved to give us enough room to escape what would have been a life-threatening accident. The driver did not slow down, even though I requested he drive slower and safer (he did not speak English but we didn't know that). The rest of the 45 minute ride back to our hotel was harrowing.
I reported this immediately when we returned to the hotel. They put the driver on suspension. We were just so happy to be ALIVE, we weren't thinking of anything else.
I have had nightmares for days now. This is not right - Swiss Travel should have offered to refund the cost of our excursion given what we went through. At first I was glad we were all ALIVE and I wasn't thinking beyond that. I was glad that Swiss Travel put the driver on suspension and took the incident seriously. I didn't ask for a refund at that time. After two sleepless nights picturing what we went through, I decided that it was an insult that Swiss Travel did not offer to refund the price I paid for the tour $488.00.
The hotel supervisor has passed my information on to Swiss Travel more than twice now but Swiss Travel has not responded in any way. This is not right - it was an insult that Swiss Travel did not offer any refund or compensation considering what we went through. As of November 17, 2016 I have not yet heard from Vienny or his Supervisor at Swiss Travel about reversing the charges for the traumatic car driver incident that happened.
Swiss Travel should have done the right thing - but they did not. They never even responded. This is an insult.
I would not want anyone to go through the harrowing experience we went through - and then be treated so poorly by Swiss Travel.

We went to Costa Rica with the whole office and Swiss Travel took care of all our activities during that week. We were in the bus with Jorge (George). His enthusiasm, knowledge of Costa Rica en general and attention to detail was excellent. Thank you!

Along with another family, we took a private tour with guide Giovanni Torres and driver Jenner Urena. They were fantastic--made sure every detail of the day was planned so we could just have fun! Giovanni had been our guide from the airport to the Westin in Playa Conchal, so that's how we met him and heard about the tour options. We got together with the other family in our van from the airport and booked a private tour--just our two families in a van instead of a large group in a bus--much better because we could go at our own pace. Actually cost less than the large group tour! First we drove through Liberia--stopped for a bathroom break and some cash (for tipping driver and guide later). Headed on to nearby rain forest, where we zip-lined, went down a very long and fast water slide (WEAR THE HELMET!), had an authentic Costa Rican lunch, rode horses, took a short hike to a beautiful waterfall, visited hot springs (where we took a bath in volcanic mud--beware that when they hose you off, the water will be ICE COLD!), and saw Toucans on the way home! Giovanni educated us along the way about the politics, education, and history of Costa Rica--all extremely interesting. ASK FOR HIM! Our driver, Jenner Urena, guarded our stuff all day in the van so we didn't have to worry about things getting stolen or carry everything around with us. It was an adventure of a lifetime, and we will never forget it. Thank you, Giovanni and Jenner!
