TL;DR Dogs, decent food, SLOW service.
Pros: DOGS! They had a couple of dogs around the restaurant that were very well behaved and friendly. If you’re a dog lover it’s great but I can see how others could find it a bit unsanitary. They were not allowed in the kitchen whatsoever. They apparently have also rescued around 100 dogs and there is an option to add a “virtual meal” to the bill in which 100% of the proceeds go to rescuing and caring for dogs.
The food was good. Decently priced and American and Mediterranean options if you want to change it up from the Costa Rican cuisine.
Cons: Incredibly slow service. It took forever just to get a Cuba Libre (rum and coke) and way too long to get the check. Overall it just seemed like a tourist trap, they know most people will eat there once on vacation and never come back.
The service at this restaurant pretty much sucked! Anytime you need to see your waiter you had to find them and flag them down. And then they acted like you were bothering them. Best thing about this restaurant is they are animal friendly. One of the customers had his dog there and the owners cat was in the restaurant.
One of the more lively places in La Fortuna. Normally has a good crowd of people. The food is what you'd expect from any American sports bar chain with some local touches. The prices are inline for beers and burgers. I believe one of the owners also has a cooking class that is available as a thing to do which was very fun and also a dog rescue. Nice guy and informative about Costa Rica.
Great vibe here! There’s always live music, the drinks are good, there are people selling art and jewelry in the front entrance. All around fun place to hangout either by yourself or with a group of friends!
I love this bar. Great beer, cold glasses, and good food. But the best part is the owner runs a non profit helping the stray animals in the area. There was a young cat who joined us for dinner. There is a supermarket across the street to purchase the animals food. Highly recommended
We stopped by for lunch after a morning full of hiking. The food tasted amazing!! We absolutely loved their smoothies, you’ll definitely want to get one.
The only reason that I’m putting 4, instead of 5, stars is that it took a while to get our food. We weren’t even there during a rush hour, so the wait seemed a bit long.
All in all, we loved it!
Came here with my boyfriend’s cousin and his boyfriend (locals of Limon) to visit the hot springs at Volcan Arsenal and wanted a quick bite before the drive. They wanted to find a place that was good for me (with vegetarian/vegan options) and we found the place. I had the Vegetarian Burrito (cant remember the name) and it was very good! We also had the fresh guacamole which came with really substantial chips. The prices here are in American Dollars; the prices are very similar to the states. Most places in Costa Rica are a little cheaper but not by much. I think the locals are leery of the exchange rate because of this. It works out better for those who pay with dollars. Anyways, I would definitely recommend the food and the drinks here. The atmosphere is also very nice. Stop on in!
Craft beer, great food, live music, friendly service, best night life in town, what else could you ask for? Love this place.
Great atmosphere and food. We ate here a few times. Great for breakfast.
Pretty good food. A little overpriced, but that's what you get in a tourist town. Darn good Pina Coladas though!
Best food, combination of locals and tourist, the owner Scott is super welcoming, always helping, tentative, great conversation, good vibes, own a dog rescue center aswell, great for groups, nice environment, right in downtown, good prices!!! They close early around 11pm the most! Ask for a burrito breakfast, the best!!
Cheap drinks, great live music, outdoor dining and super conveniently located in downtown La Fortuna. Most hotels nearby will bus you into town for a reasonable round trip price. This place also supports dog rescue with a portion of their profits, which is cool. They also have a house cat (Caesar) that hangs around, be careful though, he knows this is his place.
LOVED this place so much we went 3 times during our trip! The staff was nice and spoke pretty good English – which was helpful because I speak zero Spanish.
The drinks (crazy monkey, in particular) and food were delicious and fulfilling and exactly what I was looking for since our hotel food was horrible.
I am a huge animal lover and I absolutely loved that the owner would come in with his fury, rescue friends. The dogs would wander around the customers and restaurant but would not disturb you. They were so cute and friendly and a great touch!
It was sweet hearing the staff call after the dogs as they’d walk through the restaurant – table to table. As if making sure the customers were satisfied, LOL. I personally loved that because driving through Costa Rica you see a lot of strays and seeing them rescued, healthy and happy made me happy.
I liked that there was a donation box for anyone wanting or willing to donate in rescuing / feeding the local stray dogs.
This is a place I would most definitely visit again if in the area. I highly recommend it!
Pizza and beers more expensive than Vegas
We visited for a meal and asked for a pizza and beer
The pizza was $7.50 and the beer $3.65.
This sounds reasonable till the pizza and beer come out - I wash shocked that the pizza was so small it only has four slices - it was for a small child.
Bearing in mind I was in Vegas and just had a beer for $1 and pizza $3 this was way over the top - I asked about this and was told that this is normal. So I had to tell someone how frustrated I was. I don't want to pay over to too for something which was tasteless and small. Further to this there was a bad vibe there - I let you work I out if you goto the centre of the town you will see.
The best place for drinks in la fortuna and the most lively with tourists. The food and drinks are decently priced but I saw multiple roaches running around and they allow a car to eat and live above the bar with local dogs welcomed to eat and hang out. While at first it's very endearing it leaves a lot to question of he establishments cleanliness
This place was awesome. Had some food and a couple of drinks. We're headingback tonight for more drinks and some live music. Definitely recommend it
Drinks were very cheap, food was delicious (pricier that expected). The only thing I didn't like was their sangria I'm Spanish and I tried a lot of them and sangria can be done in thousand ways, but here they made it with pineapple and that killed all the flavour It tasted just as a weird pineapple juice. The rest was good, I would recommend it.
Loved this place!! Me and my boyfriend stayed in Arenal for three nights and came here on the first night for dinner. it was very good and the drinks were very cheap! we went to dinner other places the other two nights and then found ourselves at Lava Lounge for drinks both nights! Great atmosphere with live music and friendly servers! This bar is a big supporter of helping stray dogs and there are dogs wandering around the restaurant who were very friendly! Highly recommend this place if you're looking for somewhere fun to grab drinks with friendly people all around!
Definitely a great place to eat. Especially if you're a dog lover. There are dogs walking in and out freely. Customer service is great, food is Good, and definitely an amazing atmosphere! Must visit.
Excellent food in a laid back atmosphere. Service was quick and friendly.
The best nightlife in the town has a surfer vibe to it and Live music. Nice reasonably priced drinks and food. Try the Sangria it was great.
The food was good, the portions and price were as well but I couldn't help feeling like the waiters didn't like theire jobs very much.
Ambiance was good but a little off.
No air conditioning! It's hot in there!
Nice place with decent people, good food and stout drinks. Atmosphere was lively and friendly without being overwhelming. Service was quick. Food was flavorful and filling. Drinks were well worth it. Had a great time. Definitely recommend.
Definitely a tourist place. Service was so-so, I had to flag the waiter down to take my order. Food wasn't bad and location was convenient, but it's definitely there for the tourist crowd.
