Loved it. Don't miss out on snorkeling / diving Cano Island. Staff is great and super helpful. Rooms aren't the nicest you'll ever stay in, but Drake Bay is pretty far out there. Food was great!

We stayed 10 amazing days here and did not want to leave. Drake Bay is an amazing area of Costa Rica. It has the best of what CR is famous for except white water rafting and volcanoes. The jungles are stunning. The snorkeling/diving is world class. Every day we did a different tour: dolphin, Corcovado, 2 snorkeling trips, horse back riding, zip lining, night tour, mangrove tour. It's hard to pick our favorite tour since everything was so different. With snorkeling we were able to see sharks, many turtles, tons of fish, eel, conch, star fish and many sting rays. At Corcovado we were able to see all 4 types of monkeys, a mother and baby tapir and many more animals! On the mangrove tour we were able to see a large crocodile, many cool birds, two types of monkeys very close up, the famous 500 BC spheres, and a large active sloth. Zip lining was very relaxing and good for kids. Horse riding was refreshing as we were in a shallow cool river most of the way to a pretty waterfall that we were able to swim by. My 6 yo was able to ride his own horse. The horses where very well trained but also had healthy spirits. We saw plenty of dolphins and brown boobies hunting together on the dolphin tour.
We stayed in rooms 10 and 11 which had air conditioning and the two best ocean view rooms in my opinion (room 11 slightly better view, sleeps 4. Room 10 sleeps 3.). We were able to see many birds (toucans, mackaws, and various vultures) and white face monkeys from our balcony. The 182 stairs to our rooms were not an issue surprisingly. For some reason I find it somewhat harder to do these amount of steps in cooler Seattle where I am from. Also the temperature of Drake was not as bad as I was expecting. Our family doesn't do well with heat. All activities here start really early before the heat of the day and that helps with both temp and ability to see wildlife. By noon we were back most days for relaxing siesta time. Then went out to dinner around 6 after the sun set, expect dinner to take two or more hours here. We stayed the last two weeks of December, the start of their summer dry season--we had no rain our entire visit. Amazing stars at night!
The staff was amazing! The brothers Giovanni and Rolando were beyond awesome. Giovanni did our snorkeling tours and handles much of the front desk acitivities. He convinced my 6 yo who has a fear of swimming to snorkel. He held him the entire time in the ocean and got him interested in all the marine life. On tours with just the grown ups, he handled all our go pro photography. He did an amazing job!! His brother Rolando did most of our other tours. He is incredibly knowledgeable with the animal and plant life and so good with kids! It's amazing what he can find hidden in the jungles. Rolando also went over and above the call of duty when my niece got an ear infection. He made sure she got to the friendly free medical clinic here and then went to the pharmacy to pick up her meds. These brothers are amazing, especially if you have kids!!! This was surprisingly a super kid friendly vacation.
Room cleaning was amazing! They also do laundry for a very reasonable fee. They did a very good job with this, no clothes were ruined. They carry bags to a from your room which was super helpful as well. Breakfast was good (not the best we have had in CR, but still better then what we have at home). The banana pancakes and huevos rancheros are excellent! The sausage is actually hot dogs. Dinner at the lodge was again good, but walking the 15-20 min to town will give you better tasting, bigger meals with better prices. It was fun to try out the local cuisine. In town we recommend making reservations one of your first nights at Gringo Curts. He moved to CR from Ohio 9 hears ago and is a wealth of knowledge for this area. He has amazing pictures from Drake Bay that he has taken that plays on a 7 hour plus loop in the background you can enjoy while eating or enjoying one of his fresh fruit smoothies.
We have traveled the world and this has been probably our most favorite place to stay!response / report this review -

Arriving by boat at Jinetes de Osa is an experience in itself. When the boat dropped us off at the beach, two guys of the staff were waiting for us and carried our luggage. While we checked in with a nice drink, the guys brought our luggage to the room already. We were upgraded for free to a superior room with a fantastic view on the bay. Because it was my partner's birthday, we entered our air conditioned room and found a bottle of bubbles and chocolate. The stay at Jinetes de Osa was fantastic. It's a steep climb up to the room, with lots of stairs, but we enjoyed it as the result was the magnificent view. The room was kept clean, we enjoyed the coffee, tea and water and the hammock near the room. The restaurant serves great food at night (pricey, but definitely worth it as the recipes were original and tasty). The breakfast is great too: they even serve it before the early day trips (5.00 am). We booked our trips for snorkelling and Corcovado from here as well and on the days we stayed in, we could easily hike the path that started from the hotel.
Our laundry was done with one day service, which was perfect!
Sarah made our stay unforgettable with her help, friendliness and chats.

An idyllic location a short walk down the beach, right on the bay itself with spectacular views. Food was good and staff was very accommodating. The hiking trail is beautiful and a must. Only problem was that we could not stay longer! Highly recommended.

Muy agradable a la orilla de la BahÃa el personal es extremadamente amable.
La comida es muy rica y balanceada, se hace un solo menú para todos los huéspedes y el staff del hotel, debido a que se cuidan los recursos y se utilizan productos locales, una práctica muy meritoria para evitar desperdicio.
