The road is well paved though windy, and the views are stunning. There is a cost of $15 which is well worth it, especially if this is going to the roads. They do not take credit card, so be ready with colons or dollars. After you enter, the road splits left to a higher elevation above the clouds. Go here first to get an overview. You might feel winded climbing the 1 flight of stairs of the structure with the overlook. My daughter had to use her inhaler. With too many clouds you won't be able to see much, but it is really quite an experience to be that high up. As the clouds cleared for us we were able to see the craters. Next, drive back and take the other road to the parking lot. We had a clear day around noon and saw the most breath-taking view in my life. You can walk along and in the "smaller" crater, which was a lot of fun for us. The gift shop is really nice with coffee for a small cost. Had we planned we would have brought a picnic. The bathrooms are super clean. And remember it gets cold up there, it was 51 degrees the day we went, plus some wind (while it was 80 in San Jose). Check the weather and try to plan to go on a less cloudy day so you can really enjoy the stunning views.
Locals get in for $2.00, Anyone else pays $15.00 . That is pure robbery! That means 7.5 locals get in for 1 "foreigner".If we did that in North America tourism would shut down quick!
I highly recommend telling everyone you know!
Besides all that its just a dust Bowl hole in the ground! Nothing to see here but corruption!
5 thumbs down!
I don't know why people recommend this place. You pay a lot of money to be there and there is hardly anything to see. After half an hour you have seen everything and for that you pay 14 US $. Its definitely now worth the price.
It's really easy to go to this National Park. There's a bus that leave from San Jose everyday at 8:00 am and goes all the way to the top. Dry season is the best time to visit and enjoy the views of this amazing place.
It is cold. Really really cold. And you are inside a rain cloud (when I went). Remember to bring extra cloths.
The road that leads to the volcano is in great condition. It can be said that this is one of the best national parks to access if you’re in San Jose, just an hour away. It’s recommended to visit the volcano as early as posible (it opens at 8:00 am), since the chance of enjoying a clear view of everything is greater early in the morning. Be prepared for the cold weather.
Great place to visit in Costa Rica. Easy to get there, specially if you have your own car. The volcano is beautiful and the place is well preserved. Be careful about the weather. You won't be able to see anything if you are in the middle of the fog.
On the road you will have to drive very carefully because of the fog. You won't be able to see 20 meters ahead. But once you go through the fog. Then it is time to take picture as you see the sun above the fog or cloud.
Its amazing place, great view if the Sun comes out. We went there late and it was cloudy and lots of fog. But within 5mins it clear up and had amazing view. Its cold and windy, maje sure you bring a warm jacket.
