Stayed at this beautiful jungle hotel with Costa Rica Rios tours. Bed and shower were decent for a hotel of this caliber. Meals were good, but I had better in other places I stayed on this trip.

Although the hotel is hidden away in a nice landscape and gives a first charming impression it turns out filthy and a little bit shabby. We were placed in the worst (standard) room although we had booked and payed months ago. Bad lighting, vintage mattress steaming out the sweats of the last decades, stained walls New rooms in a separate building seem to be better. Anyway, room for improvement and at the time not the best choice.

Nice place away from town. Staff is friendly and helpful. But No AC, not enough lighting in room, no screen on slider door and 1/4 inch gap between sliding glass door and floor which allows bugs in.

During our last trip to Costa Rica we found that the lodge we usually stay in Turrialba was fully booked and we were forced to find a new place. Lucky us we found Hotel Villa Florencia. We stayed in their master suite and upon seeing the beautiful property, spacious porches and family games available at the seating areas my parents decided to stay in the same hotel. From the second we arrived the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, Adriana, the chef, cooked us some amazing breakfasts and was always up to the task of making us delicious cocktails, the staff even made arrangements for a fabulous dinner party with my parents and a few of my local family members. The hotel has so much charm, the property was established in 1925 and I am pretty sure the main house was built circa that year. Even being that old, our suite had a giant tropical bathroom with a huge Jacuzzi tub, a beautiful large front porch with pool and mountain view. My parents room was located in the newer building and it was very spacious and very modern but a great porch overlooking the back garden and mountains. The hotel itself is hidden from the main road but we found this was to our benefit; we saw Oropels and their young nesting, we took fantastic photos of Tucans and got to go outback every morning to see what the resident sloths were up to. If you want to experience a bit of relaxation, friendly service and bit of wildlife I recommend Hotel Villa Florencia. We will most definitely return.
