A good choice if you want someone to hold your hand while in Costa Rica.
Casita Corcovado is an amazing B&B. Jamie and Craig take the utmost care to make your stay perfect and unforgettable. From constant e-mail and telephone communication to adapting the entrance arch to fit my husband’s height and improving my hiking cane.
Jamie gave us advice on the sort of clothes we were going to need and what not to take. She made recommendations about tours and took care of all reservations at no extra cost. She also had a taxi pick us up at the airport and reserved a boat to Agujitas. Craig met us at the beach and helped us with the luggage. After we settled in, Jamie gave us a tour of the town, with a bit of history and reviews of restaurants (and the best ice-cream and pizza place!). She also told us where to buy groceries. She asked about food restrictions and preferences. Breakfast was good, plentiful, and different every morning. There is a bird feeder next to the dining room and we got to see many colourful birds.
The three-bedroom house is clean and comfortable. Each room has a queen bed, air conditioning, a fan, and a safe. The living room is basic, but comfortable, and also has a fan, plus books and board games. The bathroom is clean and there was always hot water. We had use of the kitchen and fridge, including a traditional “sock” coffee-maker (that we were taught how to use) as well as hammocks at the back of the house and a space to hang our clothes to dry (everything is wet all the time).
The garden is beautiful, as is the view from across the street. The beach is either going down a bit of a slope or a short walk away. You can continue after the beach through a walking path where we saw monkeys, lizards and beautiful flowers.
This hostel is run by a very friendly and helpful American couple (Jamie & Craig). I would call it "Family stay" rather than hostel. It only has 4 bedrooms and included breakfast is served personally by Jamie to your time, you desire (almost, excpet their are tours in the morning, then Jamie will kick you out of the bed :-D ;-) ). Breakfast varies every morning between pancake-fruit, rice-egg, toast-marmelade combinations.
Jamie & Craig not only organize every tour for, they also take you to the meeting point or give you a tour around the town and explain every restaurant which is worth to visit. Not only this, but also that they have always time for a small chat or discussion about life makes this stay a "family stay". Actually, we spent 5 days of our overall 3 weeks trip with Casita Corcovado because of all the feedbacks we read before, and it was worth to do so. You can really relay there and also observe a lot of birds dropping by to the table with fruits, which is prepared every morning in front of the balcony.
You have a shared bathroom, but that's fine for only 3 bedrooms (1 bedroom has a dedicated bathroom). Drinking water is supplied for free.
Besides booking normal standard tours for you (I highly recommend the night tour with a lot of spiders and frogs!), they offer also their own private tours with their own private boat - like a sunset cruise to some small rock island with boobies and frigate birds as well as some mangrove tour in the Sierpe river.
Thanks Jamie & Craig for this wonderful time and the chance to calm down and relax during our stressful backpacking journey around Costa Rica! (Pictures will follow some weeks late via email)
And thanks Jamie, for doing our laundry also!
Very great place Craig an Jamie could not be more accomidating.Great place to go and fish or just relax
Loved this place, really friendly hosts and super knowledgeable about the area. Whatever you want to do in the area they have the info!
Craig and Jamie are amazing hosts. They really go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience while staying in Drake. If you are new to Costa Rica and the language, they will make sure to accommodate your needs. They have a great understanding of the area and will help to set up tours, restaurants, and the water taxi to and from Sierpe. It is a community space, so if solitude is what you are searching for I would choose some place else. I would describe it as an upscale hostel with caring hosts that seem more like visiting relatives (the ones you like 😄).
