I highly recommend Dr. Vargas and his excellent team. I called from the US and the receptionists were very attentive. Dr. Vargas took my call, explaining to me the procedure, and answering all of my questions. Everything was done the same way my holistic dentist here in the US would have done it, if not better, and for half the price. Him and his team spent 10 hours with me, tending to everything I needed. Since removing my mercury fillings and root canal (and inserting plasma and a bone graph so it properly heals) a month ago, all of my back pain, chronic fatigue, and headaches have disappeared. Dental work is really important for holistic health. Thank you America Dental!

Update: 8 months later I returned for a zirconium dental implant. Dr. Vargas was honest about the entire process, explaining to me the risks and provided me with options. The staff was very caring through the process and I felt no pain. Very happy with the results.

Wisdom teeth extraction does involve risks. However, if your dentist doesn’t disclose these risks to you or the dentist ignores and fails to identify and treat the post-op complications, it is NEGLECT.

NO informed consent whatsoever at this office. I experienced an electric shot during injection. Heartbeat, tingling, TMJ and sharp edge to neighboring tooth effecting everything as a result of nerve damage. I developed dry socket despite their (improper) use of PRF which they charged me more then twice as much for then a competent oral surgeon in Alajuela. The wisdom tooth was not even infected or impacted and they still managed to botch it at American Dental. They tried to push a cadaver bone graft also for the wisdom tooth site. Bone grafts are completely unnecessary if PRF is done properly which it was not at this office. They did not even use it all!! WHY go through the trouble of withdrawing my blood if you are not even going to use it to fill the hole!

Worst of all, I did not even need the tooth removed. It could have been saved with a simple filling. Dr. Vargas claims to do biomimetic dentistry but no biomimetic dentist would recommend pulling a tooth that could be saved. I saved the tooth- it was a decent size cavity but still away from the nerve and could have been saved. It is pure laziness and financially motivated to recommend removal for a non impacted wisdom tooth when a filling would suffice.

Doctor god attitude here from Dr. Vargas. He claimed I knew nothing about dentistry when I refused his toxic smelling, unaesthetic looking temporary denture- (not what I asked for!) He evades all the work and puts it on Dr. Francisco whom is much kinder and sweeter but has big hands and is very awkward. I had to tell him to use gloves.

I was the fat foreign Christmas cow. This office is not serious and has caused me harm.

I recently had two molar implants placed at America Dental and was very pleased with the outcome. Dr. Vargas and his staff are very accommodating and friendly. The atmosphere is a small, modern dentist office located in an upscale, safe business, shopping park next door to Cima Hospital. I would highly recommend this facility where the prices are competitive but not as expensive as some boutique dentists that cater to foreign tourists. I stayed at Las Cumbres Surgical Inn and had two complimentary rides from that establishment, highly recommended lodging as well.
