La Guaca hostel in Santa Marta was really nice. I ended up staying in the area for a month, and found myself ending up back there more than once, and one stay was for a week at a time. The staff was extremely helpful, especially Lorena, with suggestions on where to shop, where to catch the bus, or the best route to get where we were going. Also about the near by day or weekend trip opportunities. The free breakfast was amazing, never got sick of it. The rooms were very clean, and get cleaned everyday, which I did not see at a lot of other hostels. It was just enough off of the center that you didn’t feel to crowded, about a twenty minute walk, or a really cheap moto ride. There was a tienda right across the street and a grocery store a few blocks away. They have a little pool in the back that seems like its all to yourself, plus hammocks to lounge. I would definitely stay here again.

Terrible service, we booked this place because they advertised their service for helping with tours on their website but when we got there around 9pm nobody was there to help us and they didn't know much about the tours. Finally we were able to get a tour that left at 5am the next morning, and when coming back asked if we could take a shower, they refused saying we had to pay again since we had already checked out. The guy at reception even yelled at us in a very rude manner and insulted us that we annoyed the personal by asking about the tours the night before(service that they sell). I have never been treated that way in any hostel in any country before. Stay away if you are looking for a place where the personal are helpful. This is not it
