I just finished trekking Teyuna, The Lost City tour (which was not actually lost, only recently 'discovered' just as Colombus 'discovered' the Americas) I must preface to say I did not use Baquianos as a tour operator and I'm glad I didn't. We shared camps with this group and I was appalled by their behaviour

On the last night while camping in Wiwa Camp, on the traditional territory of the Wiwa people the Baquianos guide started talking to his group about his so called knowledge of indigenous people. He then took out a popopra (a sacred object to the Indigenous people) and began to mock 'Los Indios' and make fun of their culture. He proceeded to hand his group handfuls of coca (a sacred plant to the people of the territory he was on) to try. The group one by one began to both try the popora and stuffed coca leaves into their mouths and spat it out while laughing. They went on to make stereotypical jokes about the Native people. They were in a Traditional Native Village, for goodness sake.

I was on the Wiwa guided tours and one of our guides, a Wiwa native stood by their table watching this mockery take place and to see if they would stop their behaviour if they noticed him. No body in the group made any motion to stop what they were doing and the Baquianos guide continued his insulting behaviour and remarks.

They treated him like he was invisible, an object of the past or a nuisance of the present.

When speaking with our guide later he stated that he was saddened by their behaviour and it made him feel uncomfortable.

While we were receiving the history of the Tayrona people and the continued fight against colonization and their way of life, The Baquianos group ended up getting really drunk that night and continued to act like a bunch of frat boys keeping the local families and other tour groups awake.

As far as I'm concerned if non indigenous people are telling indigenous stories there is a HUGE need for cultural sensitivity training. I believe that All of the non indigenous tour operators need to be trained directly by the people of the territory so that they do not continue to treat indigenous people as objects and not people.

Fui con esta agencia porque me la recomendó un amigo y no me arrepiento, son muy profesionales en lo que hacen y nuestro guía del grupo fue genial, nos toco con una persona nativa de la región que había vivido con los indígenas y nos enseño mucho y contó historias de los indígenas y de la gente de esta región, lo recomiendo mucho.

I did the Cuidad Perdida with ´Guias Y Baquianos´ with Carlos as our guide and it was the highlight of my trip. Scenery was absolutely stunning and Carlos was a fantastic guide. I´d heard a lot of stories about people getting sick on the tour but Carlos always warned us when not to drink the water and no one in our group had any problems. The food is delicious (3 hot meals a day!) and accommodation each night is in jungle hostels with showers, toilets and beds or hammocks that are already set up when you arrive. On the morning that we were to visit The Lost City Carlos got us up before any of the other groups and we had the entire city to ourselves for 2 hours! We did the trek in June which was perfect because there were only 30-40 people hiking each day (and only 3 in our group) as opposed to the 120 that you get in in busier periods. It was really easy to meet other hikers on the trip as the guides are all friends and groups eat comunally each day in the hostels. A great hike to do as a solo traveler and I can´t recommend Guias Y Baquianos highly enough - especially Carlos who was the second person ever to start taking tourists to the Lost City and REALLY knows his stuff!

Carlos is an amazing guide, and we felt fortunate to have him lead our trip. He has such an astounding depth of knowledge, and is one of the original guides to the area. You can request him as your guide, so I highly recommend you do so if you decide to use this company.

We did the trek with this company a week ago and had mixed feelings about the company. First of all, the company lied to us about the price of the trip, and it was only because we talked to our hostel later that we found out we could get a better price. This company told us we would only get a discount if we recruited a private group for another tour (which was a lie). When the company sent a representative to the hostel to do a sales pitch, and it turned out to be the exact same person we had spoken with twenty minutes prior, he was quite embarrassed.

The trip is quite expensive for what you get, and we realized that much of the fees go to the local people living in the area around the lost city, rather than for the expenses of the trip itself.

Our translator was a joke. He was so bad at English that another girl and I had to take over translating for the group. We also had to do the translating because our translator, Juan, often wasn't even with the group to translate. Halfway through the trip he didn't even know who was part of our hiking group. A tough pill to swallow when you know you are helping pay his salary and he doesn't even take his job seriously.

The final frustration was that our driver didn't take us all the way back to our hostels like they were supposed to. The company didn't have the foresight to send a truck with the right license plates, so we were suddenly told to get out of our truck on the side of the highway, and put in taxis, with very little explanation of what was happening.

Overall, Carlos was the redeeming pillar of this trip. I think he was fantastic. However, I wouldn't recommend this company very highly. I didn't have a good impression of Magic tours either from my interactions with the staff.

Excelente todo. Hubo claridad en la información, compañía y cuidados en el viaje. La Ciudad perdida y la historia son espectaculares. Ojalá los precios fueran más accequibles para colombianos.

I did the 4 day Lost City trek with Guias and really glad I did.
I needed a bag for the trek but didn't want to buy one just for it. I mailed a few agencies and some said they would be able to sort a bag out for me. I went into Magic Tours (who said they had a bag by mail) didn't have one and look confused by the request so assume they never have one. Guias offered me a choice of 3 and gave me 1 without any additional rental fee. I managed to how do I put this pretty much destroy it (sorry guys!) With a big rip going through it and when I gave it back they were fine about it and again charged me nothing.

On to the trek there was 12 of us and Carlos was the guide. I can honestly say that I never have had a better guide for anything in my life ( and my number of reviews should show I have had a few) He was funny, energetic, informative and a great storyteller. He absolutely made the trip what it was. There was a great group bond and while that partly down to people itself of course Carlos helped but also the fact that for 2 of the 3 nights we stayed in our own place and not with any other groups. I really loved that.
He told us he has done tours since 1982 and is absolutely obsessed with ensuring his group is the first group up to the Lost City on day 3. We were up early and had the top to ourselves for 45 minutes without anybody else in sight.

The food over the 4 days was incredible, I never expected it to be as good and filling as it was. As well as the 3 meals there was numerous snack breaks, for fruit and sweets. I felt full through out.

My 1 issue is there was no translator. Carlos doesn't speak any English. Luckily 1 of our group is fluent in Spanish so she became our translator but without her it wouldn't have been the same experience as Carlos stories was a big highlight over the 4 days.

Nonetheless If you are thinking of visiting Lost City I highly recommend Guias.
