Great food, awful service. I got a reservation at 9:30pm on a Saturday. I asked them to bring out one dish at a time and he refused. I like to eat one dish at a time because I don't want to feel rushed to eat the other food on the table before it gets cold. By the time we were finishing up our last main dish they were already cleaning up the restaurant around us and not paying any attention to us when we needed them, including leaving dirty dishes on a the table. This was even *before* dessert. I would definitely go again, but the service was 1 star, not of top quality you'd expect especially when you are paying these kind of prices you shouldn't expect to rushed out of the restaurantthey should stop offering reservations at 9:30pm if they don't want to serve the customer.
The place is beautiful, different ambients, a nice bar and good drinks and cocktails, service was excellent and everything was serve on time. We order three appetizers, the polenta octopus which was very good, the octopus was tender and good flavor and the black polenta was something new from r me, second appetizer was the Korean tacos, they were good but the kimchi was no Kimchi and the only Korean flavor it has was some kind bulgogi sauce; third appetizer was the campesina salad which was good but not extraordinary for it’s price. Main dishes were good but wouldn’t recommend the cochinillo which was not properly cooked and was not tender as I thought. The cazuela mariscos was really good, as it was the pesca del dia. The other meal was the 36 hour cow beef, this was a meat with strong flavor but guarnición and sauce didn’t feel right in mouth I haven’t decide if it was a good or just so so dish. In general I would go back again to this place.
Never fails to delight. Stick to the 5 course degustación menu. 7 is too much, unless you really should be watching your diet🤣
Nice and warm restaurant. Excelent attention and service. Plates well presented but prices very high
Carmen is one of the best restaurants that I have had the pleasure to eat at. Yes, the prices are high for Colombia and it's not likely you'll get a table there without a reservation and for good reason. The menu is a combination of great flavors from all over the world with a Colombian twist. They also change there Chefs special on the regular and have a great ambiance. This combined with their attentive and educated wait staff always makes for a great evening. Buen provecho!
Ask for the garden (jardin) seating if you’re making a reservation online (which you should do) - the most beautiful part of the restaurant!
Food was absolutely phenomenal. Try the 5 course chef's menu. Comes with a 6th course (dessert)
Seems more like a tourist targeted venue than a place appreciated by locals. Food was ok but not amazing for the "fuss" around this restaurant. Service should be definitely better!!!
I have not had the best of luck at this restaurant. Maybe it is my personal tastes. Most people seem to like it. I don't find the quality always match the price. I have eaten here twice. I think people should try it at least once before placing judgement. It is more like 3.5 stars, but not a solid 4 for me.
Carmen is a beautifully decorated restaurant with very good service but the food wasn't great!!! It was just ok!!! And for the price, that's not enough.
I give it 4 stars for everything except the food, and also because I went for launch and I had been told that the best time to go is at night when it becomes a very "happening" place.
I think I will try other restaurants when in Medellin!!!
My boyfriend and I were so excited to try this restaurant because he had heard so much about it from his friends. The food was amazing and the aesthetic was great, but, unfortunately, the service we received was absolutely terrible. We came during their lunch hours and overall did not feel welcomed. Our waiter was either a trainee or just helping out, which is normally fine except she disappeared towards the end of our meal and it took longer than we would have hoped to receive anything we asked for- refilling water or getting the bill.
Overall we received a terrible vibe from the employees there, which is so unfortunate because the food and decorations were phenomenal. Because of the service we received, neither of us are likely to come back.
I enjoyed the atmosphere. I walked in without a reservation, and they accommodated me. The wine selection, by the glass, was fair with variety. The service was good and attentive. I had a shrimp appetizer, which was presented beautifully, but not remarkable. Next i had banh mi, half pork belly and half beef. It was well prepared and full of flavor, almost too rich. I was expecting to be offered dessert or something sweet, but either they do not serve it or they didn't offer it. It is unfair to compare service in Colombia to the USA, but the quality of attention was comparable.
Food - no complaints, good dinner.
Service - I have not experienced such a poorly organised front of house team at a "TOP restaurant" ever. There were some good individual staff members who did their best to help, but the overall experience was painful to witness.
This restaurant is therefore not worth anything close to the money they charge.
Loved it.
No reservation and we got lucky with a table.
Had the octopus and truffle staters and the 2 pork dishes for mains and a bottle of red.
Would go back
We ate well on our trip to Colombia, but Carmen stands out as our most enjoyable meal. A few things that stood out: (1) interesting, but simple space (2) impeccable service - thanks, Carolina! (3) interesting, but well-balanced cocktails. We loved Carmen in Medellin so much that we ate at their Cartagena outpost, too, and also at Moshi, their new sister restaurant there (we highly recommend both).
The food, the flavors, the service, the attention to detail, were all nothing short of spectacular! For 2 it cost us just short of $300,000 pesos, or close to $100. Duh! No brainer! I would recommend reservations tho, this place gets packed!
I'm in the restaurant now and felt a need to say how bad an experience this was. First of all, the food is great. No complaints there. However, the bar for service is among the lowest I've seen. They refused to serve us their tasting menu because they were too busy (on a Tuesday?). They then were "out of" the first three appetizers that I ordered, took 30 minutes to bring drinks, and "forgot" parts of our appetizer.
Definitely not "one of the best restaurants in Medellin" due to subpar service.
