I travelled on Big Fish 1 from Panama to Colombia and had a great time. It was a five day trip with three of the days being at the San Blas Islands. The boat was clean, modern, and well-equipped; and the crew (Jarrith, Luis, and Francia) were professional and friendly. The trip exceeded my expectations in every way.
AVOID ZOE III AND SEBASTIAN
I would like to point out this is not a bad review about blue sailing, we found them friendly and very helpful changing money, but a review of the boat and captain.
We booked Zoe III from Cartagena to Panama and we were left with a real bitter taste afterwards, mainly due to the captain Sebastian who is easily the rudest and most condescending person I have ever met working in the tourism industry.
Before I go into details I will say its such a shame that Sebastian of Zoe III tried his best to ruin the whole experience because the boat is actually nice, and we got really lucky with the group we had and managed to make it a fun time anyway.
So the first experience we had was turning up to the boat to check in and we were told straight away that we were not allowed to use the fridge on board, and we had to go and buy ice ourselves to cool our drinks, this was despite being specifically told that the boat had a fridge on board. Not a huge deal I know but it wasn’t a great start after just spending $550 each. This is important as well, that Sebastian also promised as soon as we arrived in San Blas he would buy more ice as the stuff we bought would have melted.
What was even worse was we were promised bottled drinking water however only after we got on board and left did we find out that there was in fact no bottled water.
We then arrived to the San Blas islands much much later then we were told, about 8/9 hours later. Now I know that this may be out of the captains hand, however we were not told anything, there was no communication and we were just left guessing as to what was going on, which for such a long period of time after when we expected to have finished sailing and have arrived was very disappointing.
When we did arrive we were all desperate to get into the water and go check out the island, however where we parked up was a bit too far to swim to the island so we asked if we could take the Dingy over to the Island, at which point Sebastian point blank refused and claimed that this was not a 5* resort and that it “was not his job to navigate the boat, take the dingy out etc.” Now I find this almost comical that a captain of a chartered boat thinks it is not his job to navigate the ship???!!! So no dingy then, or apparently any navigation!?
When we did get into the water, some of us wanted to go snorkelling, however much to our disgust the snorkel gear was in a terrible shape. There was not enough for everyone, most of the masks and snorkels were in terrible condition and separated, and worst of all nearly all the snorkels had mould around the mouthpiece. Seeing as this is supposed to be such a big part of the tour I found this to be very disappointing and extremely disgusting.
Then came the worst moment of all, where Sebastian really showed his true colours. After coming back from an island visit on the last full day, when we had already been without ice and warm drinks for over a day, and having been promised ice yesterday that we still didn’t have, I got back onto the boat and simply asked if the ice was here yet so we could chill our drinks. At this point Sebastian completely lost his temper and started screaming and insulting me, calling me a child, threatening to kick me off the boat in the middle of nowhere, refused to come and talk to me but hide in the boat, before coming out and screaming something and going back to hide again. It went on for about 15 minutes like that.
I have never seen anyone act like that before, let alone someone in the tourism industry talking to his customers.
There were more issues like mouldy bed sheets, insulting the guests in Spanish, getting high and sailing the boat and a stinky toilet etc etc but I ran out of characters.
So in summary San Blas is an incredibly beautiful place and the experience is something I highly recommend, just do yourself a favour and AVOID SEBASTIAN AND ZOE III.
He also has another boat, so best probably avoid that as well if he is the captain.
Just finished a 5 day sail with Blue Sailing (from Panama to Columbia), I chose to sail with the Albatross with Capitan Hernandes and couldn't be happier with the service we received.
Right from the start you're welcomed onto his boat as if it was 'your home' and he and Camila make you feel as if you're part of the crew.
For dinner we ate lobster, ceviche and other incredibly delicious food as well as managing to visit a huge number of tropical islands.
The boat is equipped with a kayak, snorkeling equipment and enough food to be serviced to you at breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'm amazed the service we received was as cheap as advertised.
Originally I thought the price might be higher than I'd be willing to pay, but after the experience I had, I have absolutely NO REGRETS and want to thank Capitan Albatross, Camila and the team at Blue Sailing for making the whole journey easy and enjoyable, from start to finish.
I had picked this company because it was recommended to me by other travellers. I finally never booked the boat trip for some personal reason. However, the person in charge has been extremely nice, patient, and professional, answering all my questions and trying his best to respond to my demands. I'd definitely recommend this company, versus other concurrents which don't seem as good and efficient.
The service at the agency was good but when we arived to the yacht it was totaly different then we expected, Gitano del mar was more like camping then hotel on the water like other cruises. Nore peopke then it sould take, more people on board then bads, no ait condition, no shower.
We sailed on a catamaran called Nacar. We had a fantastic 5 days. The crew were brilliant and the food on board was excellent. The company Blue Sailing were great at sorting out the bookings for us and gave us wonderful service. I would highly recommend them.
Blue Sailing were just fantastic! Laurel in the office dealt with my million emails so efficiently and was incredibly helpful. All the dates and boats are there on the website so it makes it easier to plan it into your trip. We sailed with Sailing Koala and it was just magic! Our captain Fabian was a legend and made the experience even more memorable. Fab fresh food, including fresh catches from the local Kuna people, great hospitality and best of all your in paradise! would 100% recommend Blue Sailing!!
AVOID BLUE SAILAING - NEVER GO ON "BIG FISH" WITH CAPTAIN TILSON
You should only book this trip if
1. you want to be treated like a cash cow
2. you like to share a small boat with 12 others (and having crew members lying on your bed without asking for permission)
3. if you don't want any information
4. if you like a complete ignorant captain who obviously hates his job
5. if you don't want to sail (only 1 h, the rest with annoying motor)
BETTER BOOK WITH A TRUSTFUL AN PROFESSIONAL AGENCY.
