Disappointing. I expected something way more modern as shanghai is a modern city. This is outdated & not very technological. The best part was a display of TVs (and a few tablets) manufactured over the last 40yrs. Really shows how quickly things progress & interesting historical perspective.

Best copy market in Shanghai (IMO) for buying fake brand name items. Remember that you will have to negotiate. Sometimes down to 10% of what their price is, others you can only get down to 50%. If you are seriously interested, stay firm on your price and start to walk away. If they stop you, you are close. If they don't try and stop you at all, you are way off! But the unspoken rules is that if you name your lowest price and they get there, they expect you to go through and buy it.

Great place for kids up to 10lacking for older kids or adults.
Overall this would be an enjoyable place for young children up to the age of 10 but older kids and adults will find it (very)dated and lacking in what could be a real science and technology museum. Many of the displays are hands on but the technology they demonstrate is a decade out of date.

PROs
- Multiple floors with each section dedicated to a specific area of science. Many displays are hands on or interactive.
- Price is 60RMB which is quite affordable for a day in the museum for children.
- Each section is laid out so as to enable groups to move through without overwhelming those who are not in a group.
- Right next to the metro/subway station, very convenient!

CONs
- Some of the technology being displayed is at least a decade behind the times seems more focused at young school age children. Compared to some similar themed museums in Europe or USA this is underwhelming.
- Lines can be long on weekend or summer so get there at opening
- Groups of schools children pack the museum shortly after opening and tend to take over display areas. Stand back, let them pass through(which they do quickly) and you have the area to yourself for a while.

I would encourage parents to take their young kids to see this museum but for teens or adults, skip this and go to the Shanghai Museum instead.

This is a high quality museum for children ages 6-14. You can easily spend 4-5 hours here.

This place is huge.

I have never been to a science mueseum that is so big. At the same time, the muesuem has many experiments or exhibits that do not function properly. Still the remaining stuff takes a lot of time to see.

If you are going with kids, suggest you pick the section most suited for your kids age.

The place has enough for adults if you are a science enthusiastic.

All movies are in Chinese. So that was a disappointment for the kids.

Though it is a big museum, it is somewhat outdated and could probably use a makeover. Many of the things you can interact with had eighter a maintenance sign on them or just didn't work.
All instructions and information signs are in both Chinese and English.

Not that impressed overall, it is mainly for children. It has some interesting things, but if you're really into science it might not go too deep into certain technologies.

Not overly impressive museum. I would rather recommend Natural History Museum located in Jing'an Sculpture Park. This one is not worth your time if you are for the first time in Shanghai. Maybe come here on your 3-4th time. :)
