Google shows this museum is open on Mondays. However, that is wrong information. Please see the attached photo. We arrived here at 11am on Monday and the sign shows every Monday to be a holiday. Sad!
Since 9th October 2017 the muzium close every monday
First of all this museum is free for foriginers with is very nice. But as for a exhibitions I feel those are not nearly as impressive as those in grand european museums.
I was not disappointed but also did not feel espesially impress by it.
Exhibition from a londom museum was way to overcrowded while chinese exhibitons were almost empty.
Really good amount of stuff to see, jam-packed into the many rooms in the museum. You could spend a few hours here, absorbing the history of artefacts and periods. We came here on a tour for one hour and it certainly wasn't long enough.
Great place to glimpse the past of Chinabut go before 3pm..plenty to see before closing.
We chose to see this museum knowing we would have limited time and might not see everything, but we did see 2 of the 4 floors. Allot an hour per floor if you really want to take it all in, it is well worth it!
PROs
- It's Free
- Many displays have both Mandarin and English signs, and those that don't are still enjoyable.
- Quick and easy travel by bus or metro/subway. Both bus and metro stations are within a block of the museum.
- Even with a weekend crowd the flow of people through the museum still allows you to see every display.
- Displays on pottery, currency, jade, ethnic art, seals, and bronze art provide a wonderful glimpse into China's past.
CONs
- Local patrons do cut in front and block access to some displays. Be polite and hold your own ground and you'll fit right in. But always be polite.
- A Pro as well as a Con, there is so much to see that you need 3-4 hours to take it all in before the 5pm closing.
Definitely a must see!!
nice collection displayed in a reasonable setting. Good place for Chinese-art & culture beginners
If you've got couple of hours to kill, this is a nice museum to visit. There's no entry fee and have sections segregated based on currency, painting, calligraphy and more.
Excellent museum with high quality displays offered in multiple languages via audio guide. Well worth a visit with excellent audio guides in English. I also enjoyed that there were smaller gift shops on each level of the museum with mechandise that were related to the exhibits on the same floor. This was IN ADDITION to the main store on the first floor.
Definitely worth spending some time at! No entrance fees and a lot of exhibitions. I only give a 4 star rating as the audio guides were overly expensive in my opinion, especially the Non-Chinese ones. In addition, the two most interesting exhibitions (calligraphy and paintings) are currently closed. However, it is only temporarily.
Only shanghai and Chinese history showed by themes. So beautiful. It's a good idea to buy the audio guide.
Not much to see. Worse than any museums like hubei, shanxi, Sichuan.
Great museum. Very beautiful, lavish decoration. Interesting collections!
AAA Museum and well deserved I have visited many museums and Ive got to say I wasn't disappointed.
What an amazing experience I hired the audio tour and went early in the morning I just about got through all the floors after 6 hours and was left wanting more.
The history and culture of the Chinese empire is nothing short of education and culture with finesse.
A truly amazing experience.
High on the to do list
Great place to spend a few hours. Perfect if the weather ain't that great. Lots of historic items ranging from statues to ancient currency.
