OK hotel, not too expensive.

Not terrible, but not really recommended for foreigners. I'll start with the pros: The beds are clean and comfortable, more comfortable than beds you would typically get in a low end hotel in the west. The maids do come and change the linens and I saw laundry trucks coming and going so I'm assuming they do get washed regularly. The maids also bring bottled water every day. The AC in my room worked well even in the extreme heat. The internet won't win any speed records but gets the job done. The location is good if you're visiting PKU, and there is a 7 eleven next door and quite a few restaurants, both chinese and western, around.
As for the cons, by far the worst is the smell. The hotel smells very much like a storm sewer, the smell comes up from the drains and it's pretty nauseating. If you plug the drains in the rooms it helps a lot but the smell is still there. The hotel looks generally pretty run down by Western standards, the floors and wall are dirty and beaten up, the furniture feels cheap, the hallways look like maintenance tunnels. Everything feels shoddy constructed. The seam around the bottom of my shower leaked out into the room, for one example. The staff speak virtually zero English, which is to be expected in China. However, I tried my best with translate apps and what mandarin that I know and the staff were not terribly willing to help me and seemed pretty frustrated to have to deal with a foreigner.
Overall pretty liveable but you could probably do better for the priceresponse / report this review -

Very bad value for a dive. For 30 bucks more we could have gotten a real quality hotel but it was late and we were exhausted. Hallways had garbage in them, rooms under construction were left open for all to see, smell of cigarette smoke everywhere and the room we stayed in was pathetic. Everything in room was in rough shape and beaten up.

Horrible hotel. Website shows pictures of an obviously different hotel and the amenities listed on website are 100% not true. Tvs dont work, internet doesnt work (wifi or hardline) the breakfast is bad and nowhere to sit and eat everyday. No one in the city or delivery services can even find the hotel from it's address. No hot water somedays and sewer gas smell throughout the hotel (rooms, lobby, etc)
