(Updated, see below) Best burgers in Zug (as of June 2016), though that isn't saying much.
As of now, the place is new and the staff are still finding their feet. That's fine.
The burgers are much like the ones at The Butcher's other locations. They're more off-the-shelf than you would think; there isn't much variation though they do have weekly specials.
The fries are pretty good. Somewhat on the greasy side, but cut from firm potatoes and not sprayed with starch. The seasoning is tasty, if a bit salty.
The burgers would benefit from a slightly thicker patty. They're done medium by default. It's possible to get medium-rare (you'll need to specify "rare"), but that doesn't work very well with their thin patty. The other ingredients are conventional but fresh: no complaints.
For the bun, they should experiment with pretzel dough instead of brioche. But they're good enough for Zug.
Condiments are thin (ketchup is about it, apparently - and you only get that if you ask for it) and sauces are available in small plastic tubs for CHF 1.80 each.
Drinks-wise there is a drinkable house beer on tap (Chopfab).
Dessert means brownie, cheesecake or ice cream. The cake is nothing to write home about. Maybe you'll do better with one of the other options. Coffee is available and it's good.
Summary: a mid-level fast-casual burger joint roughly on par with the Epic Burger franchise in the U.S.
I'm intrigued by the salads on the menu: they look more creative than the burgers.
UPDATE (November 2017): the salads are really good! The service team is friendly and everything runs smoothly. Prompt service, consistent quality of the food.
Overall, The Butcher is probably the best casual-dining option in the Canton of Zug.
Added a star.
Excellent high quality food, American style restaurant, raw wooden tables.
Great Burgers, great fries but a bit long waiting 15-20min
Come here quite regularly, and the staff is always super nice, and they have some of the best burgers ive had in switzerland to date! The french fries are also superb, along with the complementary ketchup (or you can get some bbq sauce). My recommendation is the pulled pork burger with extra cheese and bacon with fries!
Nice place, friendly staff and great burgers!
The only thing comparable to the great food is the vibe, the team is happy and proud to serve with a genuine smile. Must-go in Zug!
Juicy burger and excellently seasoned fries! Service can be mixed though
It was just OK for the money. Good people watching and outdoor seating. I would go back. Don't bother with the most expensive burger on the menu. We didn't think it was better than their regular burger.
Good 'burgers and efficient + nice service
Excellent food & the waitstaff is very friendly.
If you pimp the burger, it's good. The service is always very slow
Pretty cool burger place atmosphere, friendly service. Burgers could be better though, not so tasty.
