Good food. A bit expensive. Good service
I've enjoyed myself here each time I've come to eat. This time I had chicken with spatzel in the pepper cream sauce. Service could be a little quicker. If you are in a hurry, let them know ahead of time. Johanniter has the typical German Swiss food in this touristy Old Town. People come for the beer and atmosphere. Enjoy!
For our last night in Zürich, my boyfriend and I decided to check out Restaurant Johanniter for dinner because it was on my list of restaurants to try out, and it was near our hotel.
I ordered the speckrösti, since everyone on Yelp was raving about it. This is rösti topped with bacon and a fried egg. And yes, I know it was dinnertime but I figured you can't really go wrong with anything that has bacon, potatoes, or a fried egg. Turns out you can. It was super greasy. I was only able to eat about a quarter of it before I couldn't stomach anymore. I ended up switching entrees with my BF - he ordered the sliced chicken with herb butter sauce, which was served with spätzle. This wasn't bad but again, pretty heavy. It's probably best to order an entree and something lighter, perhaps a salad, and sharing everything. On the upside, the food came out very quickly and the portions are big.
We finished off our dinner with a tiramisu (which was probably the best part of the meal) and left with a little doggie bag of the speckrosti.
Nice setting, large portions of old fashioned comfort food, great beer. Nice atmosphere.
An authentic and traditional Swiss restaurant, exists since 1901 !!
Friendly staff, traditional food and a nice beer menu.
When the place is crowded, it is a bit under staffed.

Food classic Swiss. Nice Bier selection.
The food is standard so too expensive for the price. The service and the staff are just horrible and really unfriendly. Personally I will not go there any more
The service was terrible. When I paid for the meal, I didn't want to get some coins as a change. The cost was CHF 32.40 . So I wanted to pay CHF 40.40 and then I could get 8 back. So I asked him to do so, but he ignored me and just gave me small coins as a change. When I asked him, he just said "No you would have to use small coins somewhere else."
Traditional swiss food in a uncomplicated restaurant. The service was really good, the wine and the gordon bleu ok. A restaurant which exists since years at the entrance of Niederdörfli
I went to this place because of so many reviews. But the service was really really bad. When I ask for the check first time, the waitress just glanced at me and walked away. The second time she yelled at me "Momento!" And walked away again I waited 15 mins to get my check and it was 3pm only 4 tables in the restaurant. No idea why she has to yell at me.
Great cheap Swiss did in a old Swiss fashion. Nothing fancy but just identic
Casual place with traditional food and moderate in price.
Quite okay, reasonably priced local food and old-school interior. Reservations at peak times are recommended. People are seated very close to each other.
Excellent food in an rustic atmosphere service is just perfect and the prices for the city of Zurich are absolutely stunningly affordable ( don't like to mention almost cheap). Highly recommended!
Nice lunch with reasonable price.
If you want to have a lunch here, you can choose to come earlier, otherwise it will become a little bit crowded.
