Manoogian Hall of the American University of Armenia was packed this afternoon with members of the public who assembled to hear renowned panelists discuss the history, practice and implementation of transitional justice.
The International Transitional Justice Symposium, co-organized by the Zoryan Institute and AUA, provided a space for the public to learn about this reparative concept, ask questions, and hypothesize how transitional justice might apply to Armenia. Click here to read more! #TJArmenia2018

September 21 is International Day of Peace. Did you know that in 2006 the Institute, in partnership with the UN University of Peace, hosted a forum titled “Capacity Building for Peace and Development: Roles of Diaspora”? This forum brought together 70 international experts to reflect on the potential of diasporas to support and mobilize towards peace-building and development:

September 5th is International Day of Charity! This date was nominated by the United Nations as an official day of recognition and celebration of the ongoing work accomplished by charities across the world. At the Zoryan Institute we have the privilege of seeing the life-changing impacts that charitable contributions have on our various initiatives. For example, in 2018 the Institute’s GHRUP Scholarship Fund supported 19 students from across the world, enabling them to travel to Toronto for a two-week University program which teaches human rights and issues of genocide. Charitable contributions have proven truly integral in fostering the next generation of genocide and human rights scholars by giving all students an equal chance to partake in the program. #GHRUP 2018 is off to a great start! We have a diverse group of students from 10 countries across the world, who have come together here in Toronto to study, discuss and debate Genocide and Human Rights. Our students are also taking advantage of their location, using their evenings to explore neighborhoods of Toronto such as Yorkville, Kensington Market, and Chinatown. Many thanks to the University of Toronto History Department for hosting our program, and to our Course Director Elisa von Joeden-Forgey for her illuminating lectures and course guidance.

With great sadness, the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers of the International Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies, a division of the Zoryan Institute, mourn the loss of Henry Morgenthau III, who passed away on July 11, 2018.
"Henry Morgenthau III was a man of character, who stood up for human rights when others too often were silent or urged caution. He could not have done more to support the Armenian community around the world in overcoming the denial of the Genocide that his own grandfather had witnessed as the Genocide began to unfold in April 1915. He had integrity, was steadfast, and spoke out over and again for the US recognition of the Genocide. He can be described as a "great friend of the Armenians," and he was, but even more, he was a supporter of the rights of all human beings and a man who recognized that at the root of that was a commitment to truth.”

The Armenian government delegation met with some of Canada’s social influencers in IT, Economic Development, Mining, Agriculture and Transportation. The event took place on Wednesday evening in Toronto at the residence of Greg and Lena Sarkissian, organized by the International Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (A Division of the Zoryan Institute).
“It was an excellent networking experience and this event was just the tip of the iceberg. There is so much opportunity for productive relationships between Canada and Armenia.”
