We believe connecting with one another makes us stronger, which is why we are hosting Women Should Know Eachother this Tuesday, October 2.
Women Should Know Eachother is an evening of unstructured socializing open to all women in #yyc and beyond. There are amazing women in your community, come and meet them!
We're counting down the minutes until the Etsy Made in Canada - Calgary Craft Fair! Proceeds from this event will go to the Women's Centre, and we'll be around all weekend sharing our work with event attendees. Stop by our booth and say hello, and learn more about the event here: https://www.evensi.ca/etsy-canada-calgary-2018/248855322
“I’d like women in high positions, like Annie Gale,”
Some inter-generational inspiration for you this #genderequalityweek Friday!

This #genderequalityweek, we’d like to (re)introduce ourselves. For over 21 yrs we’ve worked to be every woman’s place for community, connections + support in #yyc. We know women face unique barriers + we work hard to break those barriers down.
We operate from a feminist approach and a capabilities approach. This means we recognize women face barriers due to gender inequality, and we recognize that every woman has strengths that she can contribute to the community.
We are a place where ANY woman can get assistance, connect with others, and work for positive change. Learn more about our work on our website, or ask us almost anything on here! http://www.womenscentrecalgary.org/
Did you know Calgary is ranked by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives as the fourth worst city to be a woman in Canada? We've got work to do, which is why the City of Calgary – Your Local Government organized the first ever #genderequalityweek in #yyc! We had a great time at the Gender Equality Week panel and resource fair this afternoon - we're already looking forward to next year's event!
New on the Blog: meet Nicole! Nicole is joining our community as our Connect With Others practicum student. Read on below to learn more about Nicole, and what she hopes to learn during her time at the Women's Centre
Thank you to everyone who attended our Feminist Walk this evening! The sun came out just in time for us to uncover #herstories in our neighbourhood, and learn about why #everyonebenefits when we celebrate women in our community!
New on the Blog: we're excited to welcome our Fall practicum students to the Women's Centre! First up, meet our Basic Needs student Sindy, and learn what feminism means to her.
Our October Social Issues Discussion is on Grieving and Homelessness. At this event, guest facilitators Jessica Shaw and Diane Gauthier will lead a conversation on this topic, which impacts many but is not frequently discussed.
We're interested in what this article has to say about who is experiencing the greatest impacts of climate change. Climate change is more than only an environmental issue.
If you're looking for some Wednesday inspiration, look no further. We love initiatives that work to make cities more women friendly, and therefore better for everyone!

Are you looking for a way to recycle your plastic grocery and shopping bags? Donate them to the Women's Centre!
Each week we connect women with emergency food hampers. These food hampers and other items are distributed in plastic and reusable bags. But we are running low of these bags, and we need your help! We are currently accepting donations of plastic AND reusable bags to be used for our programs. Consider donating your bags, and make a difference in your community!
Grieving the loss or change of a cherished natural space has not always been recognized as a true form of grieving. But with continued changes to our natural environment, ecological grief is now starting to become more recognized and understood.
Join us for a discussion and workshop on ecological grief, facilitated by environmental scientist Amy Spark. This two-hour workshop will include a special address from Shannon Phillips, Minister of Environment and Parks for the Province of Alberta, and will be a space for anyone who identifies as a woman to discuss and learn about this less frequently discussed topic.
Hi sorry to just come right out with it, but is there anywhere that gives emergency funds, I have no income i was notified yesterday my child benefits are suspended until further documents provided and I depend on that income to pay rent and everything else, I have been through this with CRA at least 50 plus times but this is the 3rd time every getting suspended and i know from experience it will be months before everything gets worked out, last time it was 8 months. I'm new to Calgary and don't know anyone or any places/resources and I'm desperate as I'm gonna lose everything as it was the only thing keeping my kids afloat. Any help will be more than you know appreciated!!!! Tyvm
They welcome all women. Moms like me harldy get time for ourself. When I enter the centre I feel tat its my time and my world. Love the Zumba class.
Several thumbs up for all the amazing women supporting each other
Always a nice place to go and relax, get out of the cold and have some good coffee and conversation. My only complaint is that the centre is closed on the weekends. I would love to see it open weekends.
When you feel down, you can just go there & have a coffee& just talk ,or if you need help. they will do the best to help you.
I think is nice, just keep it up.
Makes a difference
