As we get closer to the Garlic Fair, we are excited to have confirmed our vendors. Please come and support your fellow growers! We are excited to have these reputable garlic suppliers supporting this event and we hope you can make it! Don't forget that Village Brewery is launching their Gardener Beer after harvesting Calgary's very own community gardens grown hops!!!! The celebration of our 110th anniversary as a Society in Calgary has prompted us to conduct a review of our long and successful history. The Board of the Society has had the good fortune of having many skilled individuals throughout this time to provide good guidance and good governance. We are starting a program to recognize these contributions and have been engraving plaques listing the names of Directors who have completed their full six year term on the Board of Directors. If anyone is aware of a past Director who has made this commitment and completed their term fulfillment, we would definitely like to share their name on our plaque. We are having a brief ceremony on Sunday, September 23 at noon, as part of our Doors Open YYC event, and encourage all members past and present to attend.

Did you grow garlic? Participate in the Garlic Growers' Exchange. Bring your garlic to the Calgary Horticultural Society office, 208 50 Ave SW, Tuesday to Friday, between 9 am and 4 pm. You will receive a two garlic credit note for every three bulbs you bring in. Exchange the notes for garlic on Saturday, September 22 at the Garlic Fair and Growers' Exchange. Participants will learn: - How to work through the planning process to develop a yard plan - Apply basic design principles and techniques for creating an aesthetically pleasing, environmentally responsible, functional yard - Basic graphic skills and plant knowledge - How to calculate volumes of soil and mulch using online calculators and available resources in the community (such as free compost from the City) - - Best practices irrigation of their yard How to select plants at a garden centre to fulfill their yard design's requirements

The members Fall Plant Share is September 8. It’s time to take a stroll around your garden and select plants for the Share. Water the plants well the day before lifting. Lift and divide plants carefully to ensure that there is a healthy root with the crown. Pot the plants and labelled them. Place the pots in a sheltered area. Check on the plants daily and water as required. Bring your plant treasures to the Fall Plant Share between 9:00 and 9:45 am—come home with new adoptees! The event usually is over by 11:30 am. This is a multi-day class held Tuesdays—October 16, October 23 and October 30, 2018. Homeowners will work on plans of their own yard to apply step-by-step tasks that will allow them to reimagine their yard and create a custom design.
Participants will learn: - How to work through the planning process to develop a finished landscape plan. - Apply basic design principles and techniques for creating an aesthetically pleasing, environmentally responsible, functional landscape. - Basic graphic skills and plant knowledge. - How to calculate volumes of soil and mulch using online calculators and available resources in the community (such as free compost from the City). - Best practice for irrigation of their yard. - How to select plants at a garden centre to fulfill their design's requirements.
Participants will need: - Property dimensions - Real Property Report (RPR) - Graph paper, ruler, pencil and eraser - Wish list of requirements - Photos for your wish list - Wear suitable clothing for working outdoors

I have good things to say about Calgary horticulture Society, I had trouble with booking tickets online, and then getting billed twice. They were quick to respond and correct the issues, thanks guys!
