Fall migration is well under way with many birds already moving on. I have had many warblers passing through and if they would just stop moving for a moment I might be able to identify them! This dry summer made for one of the busiest seasons ever at my birdbaths. Such entertainment and it feels good to help all the creatures out when conditions are tough. Lately my yard has been delighting me with more orioles than i had seen all summer along with hummingbirds and many woodpeckers, bluejays (very vocal may I add!) and much more. Here are some recent photos. Enjoy the long weekend!
For Monday, August 6th, 2018 we will be open from 12-3pm for all your birding and gift needs. PLUS all rocks, crystals, and jewelry will be 20% off for this day only!
Well it has been very hot lately and the birds have been very busy in my yard! I have so many babies coming to the feeders and the birdbath has been the busiest spot of all. I change the bath a few times a day to freshen up the water for them and do they love it. My birdbath is one of my favourite things to offer in summer, the birds appreciate the fresh water so much especially when it has been so hot and dry. Hope you are all staying cool and enjoying your backyard. It is time to put up your oriole and hummingbird feeders again as the young are now out. Here are some shots from my yard lately. Have a great weekend and stop in to cool off and see all the new products that have come in lately and of course, talk birds!
Happy Canada Day! In honour of this special day, we will be open Monday, July 2nd from 12-4pm and we are having a one day sale! If you have had your eye on a new birdfeeder, jewelry, or rocks and crystals then this is the day to come down!
Things have been pretty quiet at most birdfeeders lately, there has been lots of natural food like canker worms, cut worms, tent caterpillars and so on! The birds are feasting happily on natures offerings but they will be back at feeders soon. My birdbath has been my busiest commodity lately! I have seen some Monarch butterflies this week which has been exciting and my garden is for them! If you don't have milkweed in your garden we just got another order in today along with many other native plants to cater to bees, butterflies, and birds so stop in to see what you can do in your garden to help out all the critters! Some favorites are Bergamot (bee balm), Meadow Blazing Star, Prairie Coneflower, and Blue Vervain. We also got in a new line of solar ornaments this week along with many garden statues so lots of new things to see! For all of our rock and crystal fans we have put out many new pieces this week from Morocco and Peru! Have a wonderful weekend and we hope to see you soon, in the meantime enjoy some of the friends visiting my yard.++Please note that the pictures posted in a separate folder called Backyard Birds, please look on the main page to see this filethere was also a bird labelled incorrectly as the wrong photo was uploaded.. I have since removed it Facebook sure changes things a lot on the business pages and it’s very annoying

It has been a wonderful Mother's Day morning in my yard! I have been treated to some very special sights and the music is incredible! I hope everyone has a wonderful day, the weather is perfect! Happy Mother's Day to all you mom's and of course to Mother Nature!
It's Mother's Day weekend and we wish all Mom's a wonderful one! Migration is still a little sluggish in any real excitement but we have had 2 Oriole sightings and several American Goldfinch! Here are just a few pictures of some of my new sightings and some great gift ideas for your nature-loving Mom! Have a great weekend everyone!
🌻🌹🌷💐It’s Oriole and Hummingbird time!💐🌷🌹🌻
The feel of spring isn't exactly in the air but the sights and sounds sure are! The trilling of Dark-eyed Juncos among the singing American robins is glorious! My yard has been filled with juncos, Purple Finches, American Tree Sparrows, Northern Flickers, and my regulars like woodpeckers and chickadees. We have started getting reports of Yellow-rumped Warblers and by the end of this week we should for sure be seeing orioles and even hummingbirds! I have put out my grape jelly and orange feeders to attract the warblers for now. This will probably be a fabulous season at these kind of feeders because there will be very little-if any food for these birds when they arrive. There are barely buds on the trees yet never mind blossoms or any insects. I will be putting up my sugar water feeders mid-week just to make sure. If you have never tried the grape jelly/orange feeders, this would be the time to try it out! Here are some current pictures of my yard and in the next day or so, I will post a few pictures from previous seasons of the jelly feeders for you to see what we are in for! Happy Spring Birding everyone! P.S, its a bad time for window collisions too so if you are having problems we can help you out with some solutions.

Happy Easter! However you celebrate this day we hope you have a wonderful one. The countdown is on for spring migration which is always the most exciting time of year to feed wild birds. We have already had many sightings of a variety of waterfowl and raptors and even a few Western Meadowlarks! Within a couple weeks we should start hearing of more birds like American Goldfinches! Here are some photos of my yard lately. Looking forward to taking pictures of all the colourful birds of spring! We are closed today but will be open regular hours tomorrow, have a great day!
Hello everyone! Due to today’s weather (Monday, March 5th) we closed at 1pm. Our parking lot is so bad you can hardly get in or out. We intend to be open normal hours for Tuesday. Please be safe out there driving and take it easy with the shovelling, that is some heavy snow!
Hope you are all enjoying this lovely weekend! It's so nice that the days are getting longer and that feel of spring is lingering. For Louis Riel Day on Monday February 19th, we will be open from 12-4pm. Have a great week and see you soon!
This weekend will be a fun one at The Preferred Perch.First, we are having a sale and second The Wildlife Haven will be at our store from 12-3pm on Saturday, February 3rd! Stop by to see their Ambassador's Milan and R2, a Mississippi Kite and Red-tailed Hawk! MIlan has a fascinating story of how she became a part of The Wildlife Haven. In 2015, a pair of Mississippi Kites appeared in Winnipeg, these birds are native to Louisiana and are not a migratory bird so their presence here was a very BIG deal. It became even more of a big deal when this pair built a nest and then MIlan appeared! Sadly the nest had fallen out of the tree and to make a long story short, she ended up at The Wildlife Haven. You can learn more about her and all the amazing work The Wildlife Haven does on Saturday! They could really use some supplies so I have attached their current wish list, even if you just bring one item that is greatly appreciated! For both Saturday and Sunday this weekend, we are having a store-wide sale! All bird feeders are 10% off, all rocks and crystals 15% off, and we have many things that are 20-40% off and even some at 50% off! There will also be some draws to enter for prizes as well :) Please share this post in support of The Wildlife Haven, thank you!
The Wildlife Haven could really use some supplies right now. They have a lot of birds and wildlife in their care this winter. if you are able to help out in any way that would be wonderful! You can even drop them off at The Preferred Perch if that's easier for you! Thank you so much!
