  The Cistercian convent of Santa Maria la Real de Las Huelgas in Burgos was an important foundation with ties to the royal family of Castile. At one point in the 13th century the convent was reported to have a choir of 100 nuns, and the manuscript named for the house preserves repertoire from this period – 45 monophonic and 141 polyphonic compositions, many unique to this collection. SINE NOMINE’s women’s ensemble returns for the spring concert with a selection of works from this remarkable monastic establishment.

  The Manuscript du Roi is a fascinatingly diverse collection of 13th-century music, including trouvère and troubadour songs in a variety of genres, religious songs, motets, and instrumental dances. Our programme features a sampling of all these, with music by Thibaut IV de Navarre, Audefroi le Bastart, Aimeric de Peguilhan, and the prolific Anonymous. Performers are Janice Kerkkamp, voice and flute, Bryan Martin, voice and lute, Randall Rosenfeld, flute and vielle, and Andrea Budgey, voice, harp, and rebec.
