"My favourite moment this season was creating, directing and performing 'Sisterhood,' a piece for Secret Theatre. The Shaw Festival gave me space to create and with my unstoppable team (Krystal Kiran, Patrick Bowman and Emily Lukasik) we explored 'Sisterhood' through Carnatic music, Bharatanatyam and Kattak dance, and poetry. It was a surreal experience, and I still light up thinking about it." 💬

I saw Mythos today. First time at the festival in over 20 years. Hopefully this show will inspire the Shaw Festival to have future performances based on Classical Greek plays. Stephen Fry's acting truly shines as he brings various characters from the Iliad and the Odyssey to life, in the Men segment of his trilogy. As for myself, being very familiar with Greek mythology, it wasn't so much that I heared something new, as much as it was connecting to the way in which Fry performers and illustrates the tales through his use of dialogue and delivery. My only wish is to have had the opportunity to ask more questions to this great Thespian, nevertheless it was nice to hear him answer my oracle question. I will definitely try to catch one of his other shows before he leaves.

We are very fortunate to have the creative and talented TC bringing us great theatre in Niagara-on-the-Lake; World class theatre attracting superb talent to our community. There is something for everyone, including you! TC has a remarkable gift of transforming the theatrical experience from passive to active. You are engaged, involved and entranced with the goings on. Get your tickets, for sure, but then jump into the 'Beyond the Stage' offerings to take your engagement to the next level. Well done Shaw.

Mythos - Stephen Fry is terrific but the day was almost ruined by the parking situation. Not only is there not enough parking at the theatre for the number of seats but there was zero parking within a two km radius. We arrived more than thirty minutes early and were still late for the show. No warning of this from the festival. Will not return for this reason alone.

The show was good but I purchased the tickets in February at full price. Recently I saw that the same tickets were heavily discounted last month. These were very expensive and it’s not fair that I’m penalized for purchasing early. This has nothing to do with Mr. Fry. This is a Shaw festival issue that should be looked over and changed. My total cost was $350. Had I waited the price would have been half that. Very disappointed and I will think twice before going to Shaw again.

We try and see at least two Shaw plays every year. So far we've seen Guys and Dolls, Sweeney Todd, Cabaret, Alice in Wonderland, Dracula, Christmas Carol (beyond amazing special effects). Can't wait to see Grand Hotel & Hound of Baskervilles this year - and hopefully Mythos if we have time! Always amazing cast and music, love the 30$ under 30 too.

Loved my Christmas present and looking forward to a possible birthday present as well, I loved it that much! The actors, the time capsuled stage, and the sets go back in time within that quant theatre. The staff so accommodating and I was impressed with how helpful they were when helping someone with disability challenges. Of course the location as to the magic as well.

Love that you gave us The Magician's Nephew" as it was written. A great story told with authenticity. I had my money's worth after I'd read Tim Carroll's appeal to 'reclaim our attention span!!! Keep up the good work, Shaw. I'm new but I'm a fan!

Terrible performance of magicians nephew. Have been patrons for years and had to leave at intermission. Feel sorry for the actors. Really stupid. Not a good weekend for our shaw experience.

Came to the Shaw Festival for the first time this past weekend. Saturday night we saw 1837: The Farmers' Revolt. An amazing show; gender and color blind casting. From the moment the cast comes on stage you are captivated by the show. Their rendition of "The Skye Boat Song" made me cry; as did the stunning imagery the play closes with.
The first act can be a little overwhelming as you are introduced to multiple characters in the non-linear story. But the second act shows the thread that connects everyone together. Travis Seetoo and the rest of the amazing cast are perfect in this show.
Sunday afternoon we saw a matinee of The Madness of George III. Tom McCamus was breathtaking in his role as King George. I would not hesitate to see any production he is in. The costumes and staging were wonderful and while this was the longer of the productions we saw (2.5 hours) it was never tedious or boring.
There was definitely a feeling of audience inclusion in both shows. I'm so glad I was introduced to this festival and we will be making this a yearly trip (or if my boyfriend has his way a several times a year).response / report this review -

Androcles and the Lion most creative and participatory of the audience, and joyful that I've experienced to-date in the 100s of plays I've attended/seen.Tim Carroll, Artistic Director, on the most participatory, fun and provocative production I've experienced made "Androcles and the Lion" more than merely an Aesop's Fable. Written summary can't begin to describe the joyfulness of this production we helped produce (well, we thought we had;)), on Wednesday afternoon! Honestly, the creativity and engagement of this production was once in a lifetime (I compared it to trying to describe Blue Man Group in Chicago). Thanks to the 14 actors that facilitated audience respectfulness with creative joy in this experience. Jenny you are terrific, as are the rest of this cast. Such fun

I've been a many year fan of the Shaw Festival and am also a donor. But this year's "thing" of having someone from the crew come out and address the audience at the start of each production got old by the third production.
I've lived through the touchy feely theatre of the 60s - sometimes confrontational, sometimes community bonding and the practice of actors during the pre-show coming out to chat with audience members go old by the second production.
Both practices have given the Shaw an amateurish feel that detracts from its previously fine reputation.response / report this review -

I saw '1837: The Farmers' Revolt' yesterday and I loved it. The sounds of voices and stomps came from all directions and filled the room. The acting was outstanding. Travis stood out because of his physicality and sheer stage presence, but the rest of the cast shone as well. The set was simple and beautiful and I could see the influences of Norval Morriseau. The story was cleverly told. I enjoyed the diversity of the cast between race and age. It was great to see an ensemble work so well together. Lastly, I really enjoyed the Props Director, who came out before the show, and told the audience what he does for the performance. He also explained what the play means to him on a personal level. It truly added value to the experience to learn about the crew and get a glimpse behind what goes in to putting on a live production. Bravo!!!

The way they did the Christmas Carol was great. The special effects outstanding. Enjoyed their version of the story different and unusual. A must see.

Last year "Master Harold and the Boys" operated on the rasist tumor with surgical precision. This year "An Octoroon" exploded a big charge of TNT under it. Now, 24 hours after the play, I am still trying to put myself back together and when whole again, I hope to be a better version of myself. Thank you, thank you.

Went to the shaw festival for the first time Saturday night. Enjoyed it from the moment we walked in and had a cup of coffee and the most delicious carrot cake . Saw Dracula which was very entertaining.

As an 87 old senior, along with my cancer ridden 82 old wife, I (and her) just love the Shaw. We drive up from PA every summer, stay at a b&b for 3 days and see at least 6 plays. Although this year we were rather disappointed when a play, The Farmers Revolt, was cancelled. But the Shaw gave my money back - I think since it was on VISA and you should know how money grabbers deal with that. But, again as old people the Shaw treats us pretty good.
