Residential school survivor Phyllis Googoo from We'koqma'q talked with ladybugs to keep from losing her language. Today: "Students gave me ladybug earrings that are beaded and everything comes to me that people give me as gifts, it'd be a ladybug, and the kids got rocks and they made ladybug rocks for me," Googoo said with a laugh

We take a look at what Canada's up to this fall and winter as the new legislation heads for "Royal Assent", and consultation on regulations heats up. The legislation includes the new Impact Assessment Act (replacing the Environmental Assessment Act), the new Canadian Energy Regulators Act (replacing the National Energy Board Act), the new Canadian Navigable Waters Act, and the new Fisheries Act. Legislation that will impact Indigenous rights and interests for a long, long time.

Despite talk of "gifting" or #FirstNations equity ownership in TransMountain Pipeline, IF the project goes forward, the key issue will remain: First Nation decision-making power for environmental provisions. “That’s the one thing that all First Nations are wanting a say in,” Whispering Pines Chief Michael LeBourdais says. “Environmental oversights are key to us.”
