  This week on Versus, we are taking a look at the Library of Alexandria. The Library of Alexandria was one of the largest and most significant libraries of the ancient world. It was a major center of scholarship from its construction in the 3rd century BC until the Roman conquest of Egypt in 30 BC. Most of the books were kept as papyrus scrolls and there were said to be approximately 400,000 scrolls in the library. If the average scroll length is estimated to be approximately 15 feet it would have taken 27 years for all 400,000 scrolls to be printed on the original printing press, while a single modern day Inkjet printer could produce them in just 100 hours.   Happy long weekend! Special shout-out to those who are attending the annual Kaszuby Canada Barn Dance in Madawaska Valley, Ontario on Sunday.   Introducing Katika’s Versus Series. For the next 2 months we will be comparing the original printing press, invented in 1439 AD by Johannes Gutenberg, with modern day Inkjet printers every Wednesday. Each week will feature a different printed item and compare how long it would have taken to print it. Just for reference an Inkjet printer can print 60,000 pages per hour while the original Gutenberg printing press could only print 25.   Happy Birthday Canada! 151 years young! In celebration, we'd like to share some iconic Canadian graphic design.

  Fun fact: The Canadian wordmark was designed by Jim Donahue in the 70's because he did not have a Canada logo to place at the bottom of a tourism ad. The government of Canada took notice, loved the logo, and requested to use it. Jim was happy to give it away, but legally the government had to pay - so they mailed him one dollar!
