Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto your stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime. Based on the smash hit DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play adapted by Philip Grecian Directed by Tom Kobolak Presented by Kanata Theatre
Presented as a live 1940s radio broadcast, George Bailey wishes he had never been born, an angel is sent to earth to make George's wish come true. George starts to realize how many lives he has changed and impacted, and how they would be different if he was never there.

Don't Dress for Dinner by Robin Hawdon and Marc Camoletti Directed by Peter Williams Presented by Kanata Theatre
Bernard is planning a romantic weekend with his chic Parisian mistress in his charming converted French farmhouse, whilst his wife, Jacqueline, is away. He has arranged for a cordon bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights, and has invited his best friend, Robert, along too to provide the alibi. It's foolproof; what could possibly go wrong? An evening of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and Robert improvise at breakneck speed.

It may be the first full day of summer but that doesn't mean we're not super busy here at Kanata Theatre! We're proud to be an accessible theatre, and we've just made a much anticipated upgrade to our Hearing Assist system with these brand new directional microphones.
Our Hearing Assist system is free for all patrons and is available at the coat check desk before every performance (subject to first come, first served availability).
Thanks to GerrAudio Distribution, Wall Sound & Lighting and DPA Microphones for helping us stay accessible to all patrons :D

Audition Notice! Don’t Dress for Dinner by Marc Camoletti at Kanata Theatre Directed by Peter Williams
This is the first play of the Kanata Theatre's 50th Season! It is a typical British bedroom farce so expect fun and hi-jinks on this show.
Synopsis: Bernard is planning a romantic weekend with his chic Parisian mistress in his charming converted French farmhouse, whilst his wife, Jacqueline, is away. He has arranged for a cordon bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights, and has invited his best friend, Robert, along too to provide the alibi. It's foolproof; what could possibly go wrong? An evening of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and Robert improvise at breakneck speed.
Auditions will take place June 12 - 7 p.m., RMP Rehearsal Room (1 Ron Maslin Way, Kanata) June 13 - 7 p.m., RMP Rehearsal Room (1 Ron Maslin Way, Kanata) June 14 - Callbacks (if needed) : TBD June 15 - Callbacks (if needed) : TBD
Roles: Bernard: Mid thirties, confident businessman starting a mid life crisis and planning a rendezvous with his mistress. Jacqueline: Mid thirties, Bernard’s wife and having an affair of her own. Robert: Mid thirties, single best friend of Bernard/Josephine and can’t say “No” to Bernard. Suzette: Twenties-Thirties, a cook hired to cater the rendezvous who gets caught in the middle of this mess. Suzanne: Twenties-thirties, the (gold-digging?) fashion model mistress of Bernard. George: Twenties-thirties, Suzette’s highly protective husband.
These are the nominal ages of the characters. Actors from mid-twenties to early forties can play these roles.
Farces are fast-paced, so actors are expected to start learning their lines early to aid in getting the quick repartee flowing.
Rehearsals begin in August. There will only be 7 weeks of rehearsal, so take your vacations in July. We cannot accommodate vacation time during these seven weeks.
Performance Dates are: September 18th to 22nd & September 25th to 29th

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Kanata Theatre member Carl Cachero. Most would remember Carl from his outstanding performance in Lion in Winter as Prince John. He was also in Inherit the Wind with its large cast and crew. A winner of the Mary Mauger Award, Carl was active in the Ottawa theatre community before moving on to study at York University for his BFA in acting. He will be missed.

That's a wrap! The cast and crew of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike were hard at work today bringing down the set and getting the theatre ready for the next production.
