"The notion of reduce, reuse, recycle has been preached for years now. Outright bans fit well within such a paradigm. But the concept of replacing single-use plastics requires the achievement of a revolution in consumer mentality. As such, a much more interesting challenge is that of keeping grocery shopping from becoming either a burden on the environment or an inconvenience to customers."

“Nestle pays just $200 a year to the state of Michigan to pump more than 130 million gallons (590 million liters) of water.”
“Nestle has a reputation worldwide of going to poor rural communities, offering all kinds of economic benefits to the community that never really materialize, and taking as much water as they can get and when the stream runs dry they leave," said Peggy Case, president of the Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation.
“Access to affordable drinking water is becoming more problematic, and as many as 36 percent of US households may be unable to afford water within five years, according to a 2017 study by Michigan State University scholar Elizabeth Mack.”

The problem is that we're now throwing out a huge variety of new types of packaging — mostly plastics, sometimes glued to other materials like metals — that recycling programs were never meant to deal with. Meanwhile, the materials that they were designed to collect, sort and resell make up a shrinking proportion of what comes in.

Today is #WorldWaterDay.
This day is observed every year to highlight the importance of freshwater, and to advocate for sustainable management of freshwater resources.
We all have to play our part by conserving water whenever and however we can in our daily lives.
We also have to hold our governments accountable for protecting our freshwater resources and for stopping the exploitation of these resources by bottled water companies who pay next to nothing for pumping freshwater out of the ground which in many cases endangers the water supply of local towns and communities.

In Canada, 25 million tonnes of waste, including plastic, ended up in landfills in 2014. In our oceans, our plastic joins the waste of other countries to kill a million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals every year, according to the UN Environment Program.

"Danone did not give details about the environmental impact of the process, but said on Tuesday ocean water was a renewable source and that Kona Deep sources it in a 'responsible and sustainable manner.'"
But what about the plastic bottles? Those are definitely NOT environmentally friendly.
