What Is Nearsightedness? Myopia, or “nearsightedness” or “shortsightedness,” as most of us refer to it, is an eye condition in which you can view objects up close clearly, but things farther away may appear blurry. If you have children, and you’ve been diagnosed with myopia, you may have passed it onto your kids. It’s not your fault, of course, but you should make sure you watch for the signs (headaches, moving closer to objects to read them, fatigue from eyestrain, etc.). As always, be sure to visit your family eye care professional and schedule appointments at set intervals.

3D vision, also known as stereo vision, describes the sensation of depth from combining two slightly different pictures seen in each eye into one 3D image. When the eyes don't work together to make this 3D image, it is known as stereo blindness.

Iris recognition is used in several countries around the world for passport-free automated border-crossings and some national ID programs. A key advantage of iris recognition, besides its speed of matching and its extreme resistance to false matches, is the stability of the iris as an internal and protected, yet externally visible organ of the eye.

According to the Archives of Ophthalmology, consuming 3 or more servings of fruit a day could reduce your risk for age-related macular degeneration by 36%. Pineapples also contain bromelain, an enzyme that will help with digestion, and inflammation, in addition to protecting your eyesight.

Even if your child has 20/20 vision, they can still have a learning problem caused by a vision issue and sometimes, it can even be misdiagnosed as ADD/ADHD. A comprehensive eye exam can help detect vision problems and greatly increases the chances of successful rehabilitation.

Changes to the body are expected with pregnancy, but one that is less obvious is the effect it can have on the eyes. Most symptoms are minor and subside after the baby is born, but it's good to know what you could experience.

A common complaint during pregnancy is the dryness and irritation in the eyes due to the shifting hormones. If the dryness is preventing you from wearing your current contacts, ask us about what options are best for you.

January is Glaucoma Awareness Month, and it's important to know the causes and symptoms. Damage from glaucoma is irreversible, but early detection and treatment can help stop the progression. The best defense against developing glaucoma is to get regular eye exams.

Researchers have found that time outdoors correlated with a smaller chance of becoming nearsighted. This may be due to natural sunlight providing important cues for eye development. Curiously, once myopia begins to develop, time outdoors does not appear to slow its progression.

This does not mean that dogs can't see green or red objects! It only means that they can't distinguish green, yellow or red objects based on their color. However, they can still distinguish a red ball from a green one if there is a difference in the perceived brightness of the two. (source: Dog Vision)
